BEWARE Not Cat 5e Cable - Made in China Cheap Imitation! October 17, 2007 M. L. Shaw (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Box said Belkin but the heavy duty spool didn't. The cable was labelled "4 Pair - Tel. style unshielded - Made in China". The grey outer-coating isn't stamped Cat 5e and feels like soft polyurethane so I'm not sure if it would be plenum-rated. The core is too soft to withstand much "pulling" through ducting etc. I test-burnt a piece of the plastic shield and it caught fire with a thick black acrid smoke so I wouldn't risk installing it in plenums at all. Stripping the outer cover I had to laugh to find that the core colours are totally non-standard and it's hilarious to find one pair is DARK brown and DARK brown/BLACK striped. Good look to anyone trying to differentiate colours here!. In the name of God, why not use sensible colours? The cores are NOT single strand but totally unsuitable multi-strand. (I counted 7 strands but my eyesight is not great). The pairs are coded Dark red Dark-red/black stripe Dark-brown Dark-brown/black stripe Orange Orange/black stripe Yellow Yellow/Black stripe I am sure Amazon has been "burnt" here and supplied a duff batch. Still I guess you get what you pay for - however I can't use this and it's not Cat 5e so may have to RMA it.
Not Belkin cable. July 18, 2007 Mr. J. F. Gonzalez Rodriguez (London, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got this cable and came packed in such a way that makes you wonder if the product is really Belkin. I had to run a 40m long between two routers. Turns out that the cable seems to be much below the quality and signaling standars because the routers just don't happen to talk to each other. Apparently it is too much distance when it should be just fine according to all the experts I have consulted. If I replace the router at one of the ends with a MacBook Pro, then it works just fine. But I have checked several other routers (Belkin, D-Link, Linksys, and Airport Extreme) with no success. That's why I've concluded that the cable's quality is very poor. Before buying from Amazon make sure the cable is really Belkin (you know and that Amazon confirms that the cable has the typical information printed all down the cable -which isn't the case with mine).
