Not for those seeking a quiet UPS November 15, 2008 George Orwell2 (UK) I'm a Belkin fan and as a previous owner of another (now discontinued) Belkin UPS I was confident about spending this amount of money on this UPS so I could power two PCs and a monitor at once. You can find detailed reviews elsewhere but the things I noted were: 1) It is VERY heavy... 2) My previous model was described as noisy but it didn't bother me. The buzz of this one however is certainly louder than my previous model. It is VERY noticeable in a quiet bedroom at night and in the end I had to return it because of this reason. 3) Oddly I couldn't get my Internet connection to work until I replaced the cables I had been using with Belkin's own supplied cables. This seems a little strange but if that's what it wants... The noise issue was too much and so I ended up buying an APC Back-UPS RS 1500VA instead which runs silently - except when the battery backup kicks on and gets a fan whirring. If you are looking for a silent UPS I recommend that and not this one.
Good for three years (probably) October 15, 2008 J. Leeson (UK) I bought one of these in September 2004. No significant problems for three years and it proved useful several times. On the third anniversary a message appears on screen saying the battery is at the end of its life. On investigation it seems the battery is not user replaceable so the whole unit needs to be replaced. As a lead-acid battery with minimal usage should last 6 years I cancelled the message and carried on regardless. A few months later I noticed the unit was running a bit hotter than previously and this gradually got worse. I checked the unit status in the UPS software and it said battery charge was zero. I turned off the mains and, sure enough, the connected PC failed immediately. Neither the software or hardware gave any warning that the UPS had become useless apart from the hotter than usual running. So, if you get one of these, best to check battery charge manually on occasion and be sure to take heed of the three year life warning.
Belkin's 3 Year Warranty August 25, 2008 R. J. Battersby (E'bourne, SSX, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have no connection with Belkin other than as a happy customer of their broadband modems and associated kit but having worked in Suzuki motorcycles' aftersales for many years, I think I may understand warranty better than Peter Holgate of Lincolnshire (see above review). When you buy a product with three years warranty, you're buying the product and a guarantee that if it fails due to faulty materials or manufacturing defect, it will be repaired or replaced free of charge for a period of three years. Think of this as a three year insurance policy. I don't know of any insurance company that restarts the clock every time you make a claim - now that WOULD be a nice bonus. If yours does Peter, let us all know about it. So by warranting the replacement unit for the balance of the original warranty period, Belkin have actually fulfilled their warranty responsibilities to the letter. The only time any manufacturer MAY consider accepting claims after warranty expiry is for a known recurring defect. In fact, when I bought a Belkin broadband modem 6 years ago, not only were they most helpful when I was setting it up, they have recently replaced its power supply unit because it failed due to a well-documented fault. My personal view is that Belkin are a pretty good company to deal with and, let me repeat, I HAVE NO CONNECTION WITH THEM WHATSOEVER.
Superb after two years use. June 19, 2008 CAZ (UK)
I purchased this item in May 2006, after a year one of the plug sockets at the back failed. I didn't realize this product had a three year warranty until today, so I shall have to see if I can find my guarantee. Apart from the single plug socket failure, this UPS has done a brilliant job of protecting my two PCs during blackouts, etc. for two years now, and I am highly satisfied.
VERY POOR after sales service April 18, 2008 Peter Holgate (Lincolnshire) 1 out of 6 found this review helpful
The UPS does do an excellent job, but the reason why I have given it only a 1 star rating (would have preferred to give 0) is to warn buyers of Belkin's fraudulent attitude. The product has a 3 year warranty, and if it fails within that period, Belkin will replace it. What they DO NOT tell you is that, at the end of the 3 year period from the original purchase date, is that the replacement unit is no longer under warranty, and your connected equipment is no longer protected. My first one failed in 30 months, as did the replacement unit. So if it fails within the 3 year period , you better buy a new one instead of getting Belkin to replace it
