 Doesn't reduce the standby power drawn by laptop adaptor November 21, 2008

Pros
+ switch off all other devices once laptop is in standby/hibernate/off mode
Cons
- RJ12 cable provided (connect laptop USB to plug) is a little short, laptop has to be near plug
- does not reduce standby power drawn by laptop adaptor. I confirmed this with a Watt meter with and without the Intelliplug
Bottomline
If you need a convenient way to switch off all devices connected to laptop, then this Intelliplug will help you. However to really reduce standby power wastage, you can just put all devices on a normal plug and switch off the main after you power down the laptop. It is one more step but it is worth it as laptop adaptor draws about a few watts in standby mode.

I have my laptop running through a docking station, connected to which I have a monitor, USB HUB, print server, printer, 2 external HD's,speakers all of which are left on a lot of the time.....I know I shouldn't but I just get up walk out the room and leave them all on.
This gadget shuts them all down, 30seconds after either, switching off my laptop or even just putting it in standby. Fantatstic! I have not worked out the cost savings vs. purchase price, but even just the convenience of everything being switched off automatically is worth the purchase fee alone.
Two gripes.....1) i bought in John lewis and consequently paid 4 more grrr. 2) The USB-to power lead is only 1.5m long which is considerably shorter than my laptop power lead so you may need an extension socket to move the intelliplug nearer the laptop.
All in all a great purchase.
