I have used this to give me a serial port on my laptop for connecting an old piece of hardware.
After unplugging the serial cable from the converter a few times, the wires inside the converter became disconnected and the device failed to work.
Before failure, the converter worked fine but build quality is poor.

I can't say I'm a great fan of NewLink products having had numerous items by them that were either non-functional out of the box or, overall totally rubbish.
This unit however is extremely well made and worked perfectly from the box.
I was using it to connect an old serial only Brother pattern transfer unit for an embroidery machine to a new laptop without a serial port - it has worked perfectly from day one.
