Poor right out of the box June 25, 2008 Mr. S. D. Watson (uk) Purchased this and it was delivered today. I thought I would finally update from my USRobotics wired router and get a wireless one. Plugged this in correctly as I have done with many other routers before. The Internet light never came on even after trying 3 different filters and 3 different cables and checking the phone line. My old one is now connected again. After wasting 12 on hold to netgear, I have just boxed it back up and am sending it back to amazon tomorrow. It only gets 2 stars because the wireless reception across the network was very good. But its fault at new of not finding the internet has left me disappointed.
I'm up an running! June 21, 2008 Prettyfussy (UK) I'm delighted with this purchase which was slightly cheaper from Amazon than from TalkTalk, who sell it as their favoured wireless router. I succeeded in setting up the modem and getting on to the internet with the ethernet cable plugged into my PC. Then, I came a bit unstuck with my USB adaptor installation, as I don't think I had read the installation guide properly. No matter, a call to Netgear's 24/7 helpline and I was up an running 20 minutes later. Thank you to a wonderfully patient agent who talked me through the last bit, explained about the isp code that had to be typed into the address bar, and advised me to write down the sequence of installation, in case I ever have to re-master my PC. What a pretty looking device and it works instantly with my TalkTalk broadband service, so a great improvement on my old speedtouch router.
Fantastic cheap router with minor limitations June 19, 2008 Scotdoc (Scotland) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This wireless router is cheaper than some wired only routers. I got it up any running within 3 minutes by plugging it in autodetecting my internet settings and putting in my username and password. NO problem and it seems faster than my previous belkin router. It has an excellent web interface with a full set of features as well as an excellent help panel for the less experienced. It has uPnP WPA2 firewall VPN. It passes Shields Up at grc.com with full marks. There are limitations - only b and g networking no wireless n (or draft n) no gigabit ethernet no Voip support Assuming you don't need any of the above features (which I didn't) this is an excellent value well specified router. Compared to my old Belkin router this is a delight.
Don't buy! June 16, 2008 Brian rettie please don't buy this! I have had nothing but problems with it. It is always dropping the connection or it is making the connection very slow. Awful product, don't trust Netgear.
From one year to the next... May 28, 2008 Netgear disgruntled (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I brought this just over a year ago (March 2007). It worked marvellously well and was so easy to set-up. Then suddenly one day, there was nothing. I can't get a replacement because it's over the warranty and now I'm wondering whether it's all been a con. Noticed some others have had similar experiences, with it just giving up after a year. Quite jealous they got a replacement. Personally, I think it's a lot of money if it's only worth a year of working. My opinion? Try something just as good, but cheaper as if you're spending out each year, as this really hasn't been worth the money.
