An excellent alternative to ink-jet printers. November 3, 2008 Mr. R. J. Mcgregor (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having grown sick and tired of ink-jet printers, I decided to have a look at lasers and was pleasantly surprised by the price of the P1005. I only need basic black and white capabilities, and thanks to the previous reviewers' comments, it was a bit of a no-brainer when it came to making a decision! I'm not disappointed. The P1005 doesn't take up much room, it look fairly solid, the software is quick and easy to install (I'm running Windows XP) and the print quality is excellent. Okay, it's a bit noisy (but no more so than my ink-jet) and the paper does warp very slightly (I haven't tried better quality paper yet - so maybe it's just down to the cheap brand I've been using so far) and it doesn't come with the necessary USB cable. However, in terms of value for money, I couldn't be happier.
Great for home use November 2, 2008 Andrea Cali (Oxford, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This printer is cheap and comes with a toner which is roughly 50% full, and unfortunately with no USB cable. For home use this is a perfect printer, that is reasonably fast and produces very good quality prints. Printing is cheap and the toner works even after long periods without being used - I keep another Laserjet P1005 in my holiday home in Italy, so that I can print when I am there, something I could never do with an inkjet. I think most users do not need a colour printer, since photos are too expensive to print at home with a colour inkjet on photo paper anyway. I do recommend this printer for home use.
Nice little Laserjet for Home/Student use October 11, 2008 A. Simmons (Yorkshire, UK) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
I am using this HP P1005 Laserjet printer with my Apple 13" Macbook running OSX Leopard (10.5). I purchased this over the similarly priced Canon i-SENSYS LBP2900B Laser Printer due to the lack of Macintosh drivers from Canon and the many positive reviews for HP I came across when researching small monochrome laser printers on the internet. Installation was quick and simple and inside the box was a leaflet for a 35 rebate from HP on the condition that you complete 2 surveys on your printer usage over a year, which was a pleasant surprise. The printer is very compact and folds away its trays neatly when there is no paper inside. It powers-up very fast and is relatively quick to process information prior to printing. The main criticisms I find with this printer however are that the heat produced from printing will bend your paper slightly, the supplied toner cartridge is only half-full (marketed as a "trial" cartridge), there is no USB cable supplied in the box and if you're printing more than 10 pages you begin to notice that laser-printer ozone smell, a necessary byproduct of the printing process. Criticisms aside for around 50 this is a good quality printer. Full toner cartridges are around 40 but they are good for approx. 1500 sheets resulting in printing costs of around 0.03p (~ 0.02p/sheet, not inc. paper). A good purchase and very useful for homes, small business' and students who do not require to print in colour.
No frills sensation October 8, 2008 J. ROCHE 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Got this printer last week for 53 with internet collect at store deal. Came with half full "introductory cartridge" which is good for 700 pages and worth about 20-25 I would guess. Have used it with no problems on Imac and Windows XP (running on bootcamp on Imac).. Basically my previous all in one inkjet cost loads in ink then just broke, and never seemed particularly reliable. I am very happy with this printer as it is cheap, prints much more quickly than my last printer (though I understand it is still quite slow for an inkjet) and occupies not too much space on my desk. Quality is fine for my admittedly fairly basic needs.
great printer October 4, 2008 Scapa Flow (Scotland) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I was sick of spending a fortune on printer carts. for my Epson all in one printer which went through them at a insane rate. Most things I print really only need b & w so I now use this for most printing and bought a Cannon all in one for colour stuff. This is so quick and cheap to use I wish I had done this years ago! Have been printing for ages on the first cart although it is 40.00 odd for the carts this is just such a sensible buy with no problems that I have found yet.
