Dont buy this! June 17, 2008 G. Johnson (london) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Has a mind of its own! The damn thing keeps telling me there is a paper jam when i know for a fact there is not,the cartridges are expensive and dont last long. Forget about nice quality photo prints, they are ruined by the mechanism that drives the paper through,it leaves a nice line across your pictures.
Cheap and adequate for occasional use. June 4, 2008 M. Wilkins (Manchester, UK) Bearing in mind I got this thing new, for 40, and given my needs from it, I'm sufficiently impressed. Hideously expensive ink cartridges, that and given the cost of photo paper I just wouldn't use it for what it's pegged as - a photo printer. That in itself is a bit of a dissapointing aspect of the whole product. Though, I don't know who wouldn't just nip to boots and print photos from one of their thingamy-whatsits with the touch screen, it's almost definately much cheaper? If it's not I'd be surprised. However if you're doing the occasional print, and need a scanner every now and then, and could find the odd use for a stack of nice fast card readers - this is really more than adequate. Quick, Nice big screen on it, aesthetically acceptable, easy to install. Whadaya want for 40 squids?!
NOT Leopard Compatible! April 19, 2008 C. Plowman (Ipswich, UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought this printer a few weeks ago and could not get it to work in anyway with Mac OS X Leopard. Despite being advertised as being Leopard compatible and there being Leopard software the unit would not print. Scan and copy functions were fine but no printing. Replaced it with a Epson Stylus DX8400 for the same price and it has had zero issues and is a much better unit.
Good all rounder but can be fussy about paper March 8, 2008 MJ King (Birmingham, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For very little money this piece of kit does a lot quite well. Easy to install & integrated with Windows VISTA perfectly first time. The colour monitor on top of the printer is handy & the C4180 accepts a good range of memory cards. Being about to print even when the PC is off is also useful. The scanning feature is quick & quite comprehensive. The mono printing quality is fine with a good range of print quality options including printing on both sides of the paper. The 'draft' quality option is very good - clear & easily readable. Colour printing onto normal paper is OK. Its a bit slow, the colour is a little washed out but perfectly acceptable. Printing onto photo paper (especially 6" x 4" size) is better & using good quality paper improves it more. (I find Tesco's "Finest" Super Gloss photo paper as good as any & cheaper than most) The bundled software (for editing, viewing etc) is OK & quite easy to use (though Windows Photo Gallery is slightly easier to use for viewing & searching pictures) & gives easy access to the various print options, paper sizes etc. Why not 5 stars? Well, it IS quite demanding on the cartridge side, especially the colour & new cartridges are quite expensive. Also, the printer can be 'fussy' about accepting stacks of paper; it will quite often attempt to pass several sheets at the same time even though they have already been separated & it does sometimes show a paper jam error message even after the paper has been removed (power off & on sorts this) However, these minor issues aside I'd recommend this kit if your budget is about 50 & you aren't an intensive printer.
Smart simple & sturdy March 6, 2008 D. Park (Fife, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a good all rounder - I use it for printing documents primarily and find that the quality of draft is adequate and for printing DVD labels it is fine also. I have had this printer for 6 months and not had to change a cartridge yet so I think that cartridge life is pretty good also. Have also used the scan facility and copy which work well and quickly. happy with the purchase - thanks.
