Expensive to run, poor quality print November 5, 2008 Fred (Yorkshire) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We have been long term Canon users having owned a variety of bubble jets. We bought the MP460 because we needed a new scanner. Our old Canon scanner was OK but Canon do not provide any VISTA drivers to make it work with our new PCs. The MP460 is difficult to use and the cartridges are extremely expensive and don't last very long. Yes, we are using the high capacity carts, the low capacity carts are a joke. The MP460 carts are a bit like HP carts in that they are both printhead and reservoir. The print quality is different with every cart and the last one we bought was rubbish. We are very unhappy, a pair of carts from a discount source is 35 and you get less than 100 pages of print. Compared to the printers we have owned that use the BC3e and BCI24 range carts the cost and performance is really poor. Past experience of trying cheap compatible carts and refills has always resulted in trashed printers without exception, injets and lasers. Please take my advice and do not buy any Canon product using the PG range of cartridges. Expect to see our MP460 on eBay any day soon.
V expensive cartridges September 2, 2008 Di (Yorkshire UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have no issue with this printer itself. However I object to having to pay premium prices for replacement cartridges. It is not possible to get compatible cartridges or to refill successfully. Result? Its cheaper to buy a new printer and throw away a functioning machine. Canon and other companies should be made to pay landfill charges!
ignore at all costs July 3, 2008 Martin Lancaster (uk) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
if you want to spend a fortune buying replacement cartridges for a printer of very poor print quality then buy this canon mp460.
Compact good printer. February 26, 2008 Ms Young (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had a canon printer before this which was the MP390 All-in-one and compared to that it is not so good but in its own right it is not a bad printer. In comparison to my old printer it appears to drink colour ink and the cartridges work out alot more expensive. On the plus side, it is compact, easy to use and look pretty smart looking. If you want a very reasonably priced printer for printing snap shots and documents then this is perfect but if you want a more professional finish and more economical printing then do look at the Canon MP390!
Multi Function Marvel December 31, 2007 Jason Darragh (Sunbury on Thames) 16 out of 16 found this review helpful
I haven't owned a home printer for many years now but decided to plump for this Canon after reading many online reviews. I am always wary of the quality of home printers and as I have worked in many office environments I am used to the quality that laser printers produce. This baby can print, photocopy and scan. Be warned the required usb cable for pc connection is not supplied although many printers these days have this omitted, just use your old one if you still have it. Setup is a doddle, turn it on, insert the supplied ink cartridges then insert the installation disc to install the bundled software and finally connect the printer to the pc - done. I then decided to test each of the functions, I didn't amend any settings for this, I just used the defualt options; Printing first, I printed a copy of my cv and was amazed at how quickly the paper passed through the printer, although initially the printer does take a while to feed the paper. Quality was very impressive and I was only using basic inkjet paper. I then printed a couple of photos over two sizes - regular 6 by 4 inch and full A4. Considering the paper was not photo paper I was impressed at the results, the speed of the printing was pretty much what I expected. Copying next, there are both black & white and colour copy buttons depending on your requirement, I made a copy of a document and again was impressed with the result and speed. Finally I scanned in a document, to do this I used the bundled scanning software that I had installed and as with all my other tests was impressed with the speed and result. The printer has a smart modern design with a small colour screen in the centre of the front control panel where various settings can be manipulated. There are memory card slots at the front and the printer also offers bluetooth connectivity for printing direct from mobile phones. The software that comes bundled with the Canon has the usual array of features to enhance/edit photos before printing. I am more than impressed with this multi function marvel, it is straightforward and so far has done what it says on the tin (or box in this case!).
