Think before you buy October 24, 2008 B. Taylor (London uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just bought one. So too early to comment on usefulness, but as upgraded from epson R360 shouldn't be a problem. Arrived within 3 days of order & set up reasonably easy (eventually) however should warn buyers that PIXMANIA is French based & item arrived without English user guide & 2 pin continental plug & obsolete adaptor.Pixmania told me to download user guide from epson website & I have had to purchase a power lead together with a USB cable.Pixmanias advert states "dispatched from & sold by Pixmania UK" is this not flouting trade descriptions.
You'd be foolish not to buy this. October 13, 2008 W. Rourke (UK) I was looking at the 585 for 149 from PC World, then found this. Really the price ensured I didn't hesitate, and happily I am delighted with the printer. It didn't arrive with the adapter which is a annoying, but I had one anyway. Besides an email to the supplier had one over in a few days. I've never bought a printer which did come with a USB cable so be aware that you will need one. Set up was a doddle. There is an English version of the manual on the CD, so there's no need to download it. The supplied software is pretty good, at last, and I was printing off shots within minutes with excellent results on the supplied 7x5 sheets. Printing onto DVD's is pretty impressive too. The scan function works well and the only gripe is that the scan & copy function (i.e. its photocopying facility) seems slow. But to be fair, I only tried it the once, so it could just need some tweaking. I was a bit surprised by the size of it, it's not small but considering what it can do, it's put together pretty well. I've continued printing off photo's and remain very pleased with the results. I bought this to sit alongside my other printer which will do the basic work and keep this for printing photo's and scannning. For the money, it's excellent value.
Buyer be warned: Good printer but poor delivery September 24, 2008 P. W. Green (England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Epson Stylus Photo RX685 All-in-One Printer, 6.3cm LCD, USB UK buyers need to be aware that this printer is delivered from and is a product for the French market. You will need to download an English manual but this is not a problem. However, despite my printer arriving promptly, it arrived with a French power lead and no adaptor. Consequently, it was useless. I emailed the company to ask for a power adaptor to be sent by express delivery. It took 3 days to reply and 2 days later the adaptor has not arrived. I ordered an adaptor from elsewhere on Amazon and received it the next day at a cost. I could have bought this printer from a local store but decided to save the fuel on a 50 mile round trip and order it from Amazon. A big mistake. This option has proved more expensive. The printer seems, however, to be fine. This is a complaint about the delivery. Go to your local store.
Day 1 and off to a bad start... September 24, 2008 Mrs. S. Le Masurier (UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
So far it's day 1. No USB connection which is mean. Luckily I managed to find one in a drawer. Unpacked everything else and went to connect to the mains - the plug is 2 pin European style not 3 pin uk style and as I have no adaptor I can't connect until tomorrow which is infuriating as I have disconnected my old printer and taken it to the garage! Tried to read the manual as the diagrams on the installation leaflet are not straightforward - found the instruction booklet is in German, French and Dutch - but not English. This version is marketed for mainland Europe, not for the UK. I hope things improve once I get a mains cable...
Cannon or Epson ??? September 3, 2008 Mr. D. Lyness (UK (NI)) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Hi to anyone who reads this. I have been considering buying a new printer for some time. To be honest ive always bought Epson printers but I thought I would like to change and buy a Cannon. So I done a lot of research on both Epson RX685 and Cannon MP610. Well after reading all the reviews and doing my own research I decided to stick with the devel I know. The Epson RX685 won me over. The print quality is amazing and the fact that I can print onto DVDs and CDs helped to swing it for me. It is big and bulky but thats ok. It looks classy. I experienced one small downside to it. When I was setting it all up it took me 10mins to find out where the USB cable pluged into. It was doing my head in. I just couldnt seem to find where the damn thing went, until I lifted the lid on the scanner, and there it was. Anyway if any of you good folk are considering buying the Epson RX685 you wont go far wrong. It is a very good printer. I am more than happy with it. Ohh did I mention Amazon where the cheapest I could find.
