5 out of 5 stars Best keyboard ever   July 26, 2006

This is singly the best keyboard I've ever used - I managed to break mine just now, and I'm disappointed that I can't seem to find it any more. I've become reliant on its many excellent features, which I shall describe below in a hurry before running out to the shop to find a replacement.

For a start, all the keys are in the right place, which is a pleasure if you've had to deal with the latest crop of idiotic layouts that throw in f-locks, make the enter key bigger and the backspace smaller, and move PrtScrn/ScrollLock/Pause down a row to give you a Power/Sleep/WakeUp set. You know the ones - you go to "print screen" and your computer shuts down. This keyboard doesn't do that.

Another wonderful invention is the keyboard wheel. I think this is meant to work as a mousewheel, but if you plug it into the PS/2 port rather than USB it acts as a cursor up/down key - fantastic for traversing through lists or anything else that needs pushing up/down several times in a hurry!

There's also a plethora of neatly-arranged extra buttons, which I'll admit I've never used except for the volume controls and prev/next track. Still, they're there if you want them. All this is topped off with a nice long cable, which I like to make use of by internetting from the comfort of my bed. Try it!

Were the two reviewers earlier using the same keyboard as this? The keyboard I used has no f-lock key - if you look at the picture, there is no f-lock key on that keyboard.

2 out of 5 stars Let down by a very stupid feature   December 7, 2004

This keyboard is fine as a keyboard - the keys are responsive, it's comfortable, there are handy extra buttons for volume control, a scroll wheel and other functionality.

But it is badly let down by an incredibly stupid "feature". The function keys don't work as function keys unless you press the F-lock button first! There are very few programmes that don't use the function keys for shortcuts, but this keyboard sees fit to disable them by default and turn them into buttons for launching the email app and other apps.

This is so annoying, especially if you are a power user or developer - basically anyone who uses keyboard shortcuts, or hits F1 for help, or F3 for search or whatever. You go to hit F4 and the mail app fires up as you frantically try to stop it before it attempts to fetch email from the internet. It's only after clearning up this mess that you remember to hit F-Lock.

And make sure you hit the right button since the F-Lock is adjacent to the Shutdown button! So woe betide you if you don't look what button you are pushing. I did it a number of times, before I got so fed up that I superglued a coin over the Shutdown button so I couldn't press it by mistake.

It would not have killed Logitech to put a toggle switch underneath the keyboard to control the default behaviour, or even make the keyboard 'remember' the previous setting, or to make the keyboard driver prime the keyboard with the proper value. But it does none of these things.

So unless you never, ever push a function key in your life I suggest you avoid this keyboard and any others like it. Whoever thought this dumb feature up should be flayed alive. It's as dumb a car that puts you 1st gear when it starts whether you want to be or not.

If not for this I would have probably rated it a 4 or 5.

This is a superb keyboard(Im using now)very comfortable, zero tilt is a great invention, keys are quiet and soft BUT give enough feedback, the media keys work superb, press for example "shopping" key and instantly your favourite shopping site displays, and the CD/Media function buttons are excellent, pause,fw,rw,display CD info work at once.
I cannot recommed enough this keyboard, buy it you will NOT be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Logitech have done it again!   August 20, 2004

This little gizmo is the best purchase I ever made! The F-Keys (F1,F2,etc) have double purposes thanks to the FLOCK key (so you can send/fw/reply to emails as well as opening My Computer, My Documents, My Music and My Pictures and printing and saving with one click. You also have one click access to your fav. email, IM and webcam programs as well as search, favourites shopping and home webpages. And all of these are customisable so you can link them to any website or program. But the best feature for me is the media controls - access to any media player and ability to skip/pause/stop as well as volume controls. Initially there was a problem: The pc said it had had a serious error but nothing was actually wrong. It corrects itself though. You'll love it!

When I first opened this, i thought it was pretty big!

But, its easy to use, nicely spaced out and everything you need from the internet to switching your pc off, all at the touch of a button!

You can even program the buttons to do what you want! whether it be an internet site, or program. Its got a cool scrolling wheel to for easier viewing of web pages, zoom control etc, and at a great price too!
