Caution: no magnetic shielding on sub-woofer August 20, 2008 orpheus (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading all the positive reviews on these speakers here and elsewhere, I ordered them. A day later, I looked them up the Altec Lansing website and found the User Guide. On page 4, the Guide states: Warning: The subwoofer is NOT magnetically shielded, so it must be kept at least 2 feet (0.6m) from PC monitors, TV sets, computer hard drives or any other magnetic media (floppy disks, computer or audio tapes, etc). This warning is accompanied by a diagram showing the subwoofer placed to the extreme right outside a desk with the PC tower placed on the extreme left, with the full width of the desk in between the two. I have a very compact working place and there was no way I could separate the sub-woofer from the PC by more than two feet and I was not prepared to risk corrupting my hard disks, so I cancelled the order. I do think this warning should appear with the general information provided on this product as the consequences could be dire. Better still, perhaps Altec Lansing could do the decent thing and magnetically shield the sub-woofer so that it can go anywhere.
great June 19, 2008 S. Mcglinchey (uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
bought these from pixmania for 105 .... not cheap for a 2.1 set, but I had been told these were good. delivery was fast enough. and as for the quality.. im speechless. The subwoofer is huge sure, probably akin to a medium pc tower in height and a little wider - but when it sounds so perfect who cares. I just put mine under a large table out of sight. As for the satellite's, they are amazing speakers on their own, the sound is deep, rich and clear. With the bass and treble set to about 65% on the table top volume controller the sound is mesmerising. I am a musician so i'm very critical of speakers, and i can honestly not recommend a better 2.1 speaker set for any pc than these. Spend the money. you won't be disappointed. The only small gripe i have is the weakness of the remote control signal - you really do have to point it right at the receiver to get it to work.
Superb ! June 6, 2008 N. Chishtie Just received these today. All I can really say, is that the sound is superb. The two midrange drivers with the horn tweeter produce a full range of sound with stunning clarity. I'm listening to some of my favourite tracks and I'm hearing sounds that I've not really heard before because of a lack of midrange drivers on previous sets of speakers. At first I was a bit apprehensive about buying these speakers because I'd read quite a few reviews which mentioned potential hissing and humming. I haven't really noticed any unusual noises with my set. The MX5021 is very easy to setup and its build quality speaks for itself. Very pleased !
outstanding! January 16, 2008 M. Ntouros (Birmingham, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used to have a proper hifi system connected to my pc back at home, so when I moved to Uni halls I needed something more than the lousy laptop speakers. After days of researching and comparing between Logitech z2300, klipsch 2.1 and the mx5021, I finally decided to go for them. The reason was that, although the logitechs were LOUD, these had 2 x 3" mids plus tweeters, and they had an amazing deep-bass woofer. Klipsch were good too, but didnt have the midrange performance these beasts have. All in all, as soon as they came here I thought they would be much, much worse than my hifi system, but I was pleasantly surprised! They don't sound as good, but they are very close to reaching hifi quality! Highly recommended for people wanting to listen to music more than watch dvd's like me (so they don't need 5.1 more than a good 2.1 set, which in this case is THX certified).
MX5021 - Amazing Sound Quality January 10, 2008 bugmaster5000 (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After researching for several hours on which speakers to buy considering RMS wattage, sound quality and individual sub woofer bass. All compared with price, and including the tried and tested sound quality of Altec Lansing. I decided to go with the MX5021 speakers at just under 100 pounds. Result - Absloutely outstanding! exceptional quality of treble and mid with the ballsy bass to back it up. Its a whole new experience listening to your favourite songs! very very happy, would definately reccomend.
