Dire Creative July 8, 2008 D. S. Fearon (UK) Superb set of speakers, but alas, my set has blown too. Loud pop moise, glass fuse shattered, replaced fuse, blows = Creative suck. The web support from Creative was dire to say the least, the replies I was recieving from their support were barely litterate, just pointing me to a web page that I had already visited, with a picture of a fuse lol. So we've all been given 300 paperweights by creative, thanks for that, I will never buy Creative again, I think their time in the PC market is coming to an end. Don't buy these speakers, maybe try the Logitech or some Altecs :)
Sub-wuffer a duffer - joining the queue June 29, 2008 S. Parmenter (Sleazeland) I bought my set in October 2006 and the sub-woofer went pop 2 days ago - and now I read all these reviews! I don't use mine heavily and nor do I use it for long periods but, as it happens I was programming for several hours and listening to Internet radio when there was a loud pop and then silence. I replaced the fuse but it was only when the unit was turned on from standby did it blow the fuse. It does sound rather good, however I will not buy another as there seems to be too many other people reporting the same behaviour and there being no help or support from Creative. Creative seems to be in a bit of a decline these past few years with regards to the quality of their soundcards, drivers and support. Now it's their speakers. Shame. Do not buy from Creative.
Do not leave your speakers on indefinitely June 8, 2008 Sj Hearne This system is amazing, with a good soundcard it cannot be beat. Leave it on for more than 18 hours and lose the amplifier ( 200 worth). It is not worth it, I spent a lot of money (which I do not have) on this 'amazing' sound system. At first I was in paradise but I left it running idle for 6 hours and there were flames. Steer clear and save your money for the next iteration, I hope it will be better...
it's ok but could have been better May 24, 2008 Mr. J. Harris (england) it's certainly loud and good sound quality etc but there's a few niggles that wear you down over time. firsty, if you plug something into the stereo input, it only comes out of 2 speakers whereas with hardly any more effort, they could've had it come out of all the speakers and with a bit more effort, they could have had a built in decoder. you can get round the stereo problem by getting a bunch of minijacks and soldering them together so the sound goes to all speakers but it shows sloppyness in creative. the other main niggle i have is to do with the settings: you can adjust and set up all the speakers to various levels of loudness but if you turn it off at the plug, you lose all the settings and it's a real pain in the backside to keep re-ajusting them. So you could just keep it on standby you'd think, but no: randomly, when you switch it on from standby, it immediately switches it'self back onto standby and looses all the presets. Is mine just dodgy? who knows. one last word of warning, well two actually, if you're lazy and like to use the remote control then I can tell you now that it's a lot quicker to get up, and adjust it manually because the remote decides when it's feeling in the mood or not and when it's not, you could be inches away and get zilch happening. And finally, if you're planning to set it up in your room and you have walls and a ceiling then be prepared to have to turn the base down to it's lowest level possible or incase the base speaker in a concrete box. it's stupidly loud. it's been a while since i bought this and they've probably sorted out all these problems with the next model up by now.
Always get a LifeGaurd for S750, before you buy it! May 9, 2008 S. SHARMA (Glasgow, Scotland UK) I had seen in the reviews for this masterpiece, people complains that the amplifier dies and woofer stops working. They sends it back to creative, get it repaired, but it agin dies, just after the warranty period completes! So, I also searched the whole universe of IT(www) to find the problem and get the cure, as many people do. Problem is with the internal architecture of woofer, which burns the amplifier. There is no problem in electronics and circuitry, but the various approval standards of various countries, costs of redesigning woofer, of the best selling top end product etc prevents creative to solve this problem. But we can, Simply get a surge protector, connect your S750 to it, and connect a laptop cooling pad at the heat sink of your woofer, which is located at the back of the woofer, but leave some space for it to breath. Seems strange? yeah it is, but surely cheaper then sending your S750 to creative, and waiting for months. To understand how it works, we have to understand how our S750 works. See the woofer have a massive 210 Watt capacity, and it get it from amplifier, which is in-built. As, it is an electrical appliance, it generates huge heat because of the electrical current flowing. Creative had created a heat sink to throw out the heat outside, and it works very well in warranty period too. As the heat sink is made up of metal and heat always flow from hot to cool conducting device(for example, if you put a pan on your hot plate in kitchen, it will get hot, as heat is flowing from hot plate to pan), it extracts the heat from the amplifier, to a high extent. But still some heat is left, because it can't radiate all the heat to the air and it keeps on damaging the internal capacitors, which stores thousands of volts, slowly slowly. And kills it, in the warranty period. So, if we add a laptop cooling pad, as it have fans, it will continuously provide cool air, which will blow away the hot air, in contact with the heat sink and replenish the cool air to extract more heat.(Try cooling the hot pan used above with a fan and on its own, see the difference in the time taken by the pan to cool )So, now you won't roast the internal components, while playing hot games and music. Another thing which damage the woofer are fluctuations in the electric current. These are called surges, and use of a surge protector will save you from changing the fuse of your woofer, repeatedly. Surges last for milliseconds, but have a range of 10,000 volts, thats why damage the fuse, which sacrifices his life to save other. See, as you all know, fuse is a low melting point, metal wire, as high voltage current flow through it, it melts and break the circuit, so that currents can't pass through it and it saves other components, next to it in circuit. So, the main point here is that, let surge protector scarifies his fuse, rather than woofer. So, why don't creative do this. Simple, they want there product to remain approved by canadian approval agency and others. Taking out the amplifier will make them to get the certification again, which is not easy. Also, as it is the top and best selling model, they can't accept a defect in architecture openly. Lastly, it is far more cheaper to patch, then redesign. Thats all I know, get a cheap insurance for your black boys and enjoy!
