Quality product and service February 27, 2008 Mr. P. Stafford (Tyne & Wear) I've gone through two sets of cheap and nasty lightweight speakers, so i ordered these on the 25th Feb (supersaver) and i recieved them on the morning of the 27th (excellent delivery time). These speakers are only a few pounds more than my other tacky speakers but the sound quality is tons better for sound clips and music. I've purchased Logitech products before from Amazon and received the same quality product and service each time.
Buzzing Sound on Right speaker January 30, 2008 Mark Lennard (UK) Bought these speakers and after using them for an hour a started getting buzzing feedback on the right speaker. It appeared to be caused by vibration of the cone. If I held the front housing the buzzing would stop. I thought the sound quality produced was acceptable but only just even to my untrained ear it sounded a little bit tinny. But for this price I wouldn't expect deep bass without a sub woofer. I thought the sound quality at volume drowned out lyrics and was far worse than the pair of cambridge soundworks speakers they replaced. Esthetically the speakers are large standing quite tall off the desktop. the buzzing was the big dissappointment I had to return them.
Excellent sound quality from small-ish 2.0 speakers January 19, 2008 Mr. Ian Thomas (Cambridge, UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having read the other reviews for these speakers, I thought I'd give my opinion. I bought these to replace my Logitech R-10s because of their lack of clarity and bass response. What's the point in having compact speakers that don't sound good enough to make you want to listen to them?! My first impression was that these X-140s are a bit bigger and a lot heavier and more substantial. They look and feel like they're built to last. They have two extra features too - a tone control for treble/bass balance, and an aux stereo minijack input on the front so you can connect an MP3 player without disconnecting them from your PC. The X-140s are two-way as you can see through the metal grilles. The top tweeter cone takes care of high frequencies while the bottom cone takes care of the bass. Splitting things up like this gives much better clarity and bass response. The sound quality of these is sooooo much better than the R-10s without taking up much more desk space. The most impressive thing is the stereo imaging - these really create a realistic sound field if you sit in the middle. Another major plus for me is that they come with a standard mains plug rather than one of those bulky transformer plugs like the R-10s which take up way too much room and usually stop you using the next-door sockets. Some other reviewers have commented that these speakers don't go very loud. Well, I'm not sure that you can expect to use 2.5 watt desktop PC speakers for a house party. I want something that sounds really good without taking up too much space. If I wanted serious volume/bass I'd need something with a subwoofer, but then it takes up loads of space and irritates the neighbours! And these are only 15 which is a major bargain. To summarise, I am really happy with these. They're well made, built to last, give excellent sound for their size/power, and look like they'll last for years. You have to give 5 stars for getting all this for 15.
Good for the price January 7, 2008 Mr. RJ WILMSHURST (UK) For around 15 these speakers are pretty good. The cables are of a decent length and most importantly the sound quality is quite good. Obviously these don't sound as good as a decent hi-fi, but the bass is reasonable for 15 units. So I would recommend these for general/background music on your PC. However if your PC is your main media centre then you'll likely want to spend nearer 100 on a speaker set.
Amazing service from Amazon Prime and ParcelForce! January 7, 2008 Steve (Huddersfield, U.K.) OK, the speakers: fine for the price. Good clear sound, seem sturdy. The're bigger than I expected; you don't in fact need such big units for decent bass. My other PC has tiny things that Dell supplied and they do the job just as well as these. But as an advertisement for Amazon Prime, where you pay 49 up front and get 'free' next day delivery for a year: well, everything's been fine so far, but this time they excelled ....ordered speakers at 17-00 on a Thursday. Arrived by Royal Mail ParcelForce at 09-03 on the Friday! Incredible- how do they do it? So five stars to Amazon and Parcelforce.
