Pure-Fi Elite review January 24, 2008 T. Hammond (London) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've tried pretty much every single iPod speaker system known to man and none can compare to the Pure-Fi Elite. Thanks to Amazon I got it for a tad over 164. In the past I've had some serious hi-fi kit (Audiolab, Kef) so I was very fussy about the right system. And sound. It's taken me 3 months! I discounted the Go+Play for the idiotic remote and not being able to see my ipod screen. Apart from that the Go+Play is excellent. The bass is incredible. And portable! I discounted the Tannoy i30. Has great sound but is a little light on the bass. Yes, it goes loud but if you want warmth this isn't going to do it. I discounted the im7 for being bass heavy. This is still an excellent machine. I discounted the Bose purely and simply because it didn't have the power the Pure-Fi has. Great remote though. I chose the Pure-Fi put simply because the sound is incredible. For such a device it really packs a punch. Advantages: Sound from such a small enclosure. Plenty of bass (which you can adjust but sounds fine out of the crate). I have an iPod touch so you will need to use your supplied dock. The unit does come with 9 docks. Disadvantages: Remote. It's ir so you need to point it directly at the unit for a response. Consider the HK Go+Play which has wireless.. which means you can change tracks next door. Power unit. It's made for the US so you get a large power brick and 2 sets of power leads. Annoying amount of cable if you want to put it in the kitchen. Not portable :-(
