Evoke - 2 XT April 19, 2008 Mr. Philip Nelson (Dorset ,England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Excellent sound quality,v/good tone control. Easy to tune and set up.Pleasure to listen to. Bought with recharge battery pack, works well. Was able to pick up 14 No 90- 100% reception Dab stations in North Dorset using radio ariel. Tried TV ariel was worse. Would need to buy Dab ariel to get more stations. Very slight grumble, instruction book says that I have a sleep timer for radio to turn off in 15, 30 mins etc, have not got this! Other timers work well. Argee with other writer that screen display is bright for bedroom even on lowest setting.Ended up draping piece of material accross radio front.
Fault April 18, 2008 The mouse that roared 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am not sure how common this is, but the display on the one I bought stopped working after about 3 months. It remained illuminated by light (i.e. blue) but all of the white text disappeared. Nothing else was wrong with it, it could, for example, play and change channels, but as you can imagine it was thereafter unusable. Before that the only other niggle was that the light display was too bright for a bedroom. Ironically after the display stopped working, this problem remained with no way to remedy it by navigating my way to the display options! If it were not for this fault, though it would have been a good radio with a good sound.
Lots of good points but some niggles as well April 9, 2008 B. R. Hales (London) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Good: Great sound Plays loud if you want it Poor: Few presets Slow changeover between stations Sometimes doesn't want to turn on properly (the biggiest niggle) When on ACDC, bright blue backlight impossible to turn off Bulky Awlful handle Aerial easy to break
...and STILL no Chargepaks available! March 31, 2008 Marie (North West (U.K.)) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Yes - it's another 3 star review! Such a pity too, for altogether I love this radio with it's lifelike quality sound, easy-use menu, handy (if pricy) SD card recording, and classy looks. But in common with other purchasers I have to use it plugged into the mains, so largely it's stationary, as it's fairly large to lug about to another socket! Frankly, even if I could get the Chargepaks easily I'd be doubtful about buying them, as the stories of them going on fire etc., scare the socks off me! Still, it's a decent product otherwise, so I hope in years to come the manufacturer gets the "battery" issues sorted out for the newer versions.
Excellent but no batteries available December 6, 2007 Stephen (Yorkshire, UK) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Aa excellent radio for sound quality, build quality, finish and style. Plug it into an expensive hifi amplifier and also an external DAB aerial and listen to the sound it can produce over the already stand alone mini hifi quality excellent sound it produces. So why mark it down when sounding like it can't be faulted? Well, Pure state that this is a portable radio that can be taken anywhere. True you can put six normal battery cells in it but these will cost you a small fortune to run it on these. However, Pure do recommend that you use the ChargePAK to run it on battery power to make it truly portable. But, here's the "Catch 22" as the ChargePAK rechargeable battery is almost unobtainable and as rare as rocking horse manure. Even Pure are refusing to accept orders for them as they don't have any in stock or any idea if there will be any stock available at any time. They now don't even bother answering email enquiries for the ChargePAK rechargeable batteries. A very poor state of affairs if you're wanting the radio to be fully portable. So an excellent radio spoiled by not having an essential bespoke accessory available in stock.
