Very disappointing July 26, 2008 Wade Allsopp (London) Given the rave reviews this unit gets I was excited to receive mine. The build quality is great and when it works it is a really nice sound. Problem is that generally it doesn't work, or takes 20-30 minutes of button pressing to get any response. Network connection is intermittent, and the buffer often gets overloaded so it gets jammed on one song. It regularly forgets settings so one has to start the whole set up process again and again. Given the cost approaches that of a budget laptop, one might consider buying a dedicated cheap laptop to provide a much more powerful, flexible and reliable music server.
The best of its kind July 1, 2008 J. Palmer (UK) Accept no imitations, I have tried others and the Squeeze box is easier to use, looks better, has a fast boot up and quick menu's but most important of all, it SOUNDS better than the rest. Buy with confidence. Great bit of kit.
Simply Fantastic March 15, 2008 Richard Dunn (East Yorkshire, United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is quite simply the best gadget I have ever bought. Setup is a breeze, the menu is very intuitive and responsive making finding your music effortless. Using the AlienBBC plugin you can listen to all the BBC listen again services, which is an excellent feature. The sound quality is flawless. Do make sure you re-rip all your CDs to a lossless format such as FLAC though, as the squeezebox contains a very high quality DAC (digitial to analogue convertor) which will show up the the lossy quality of MP3s. If you are considering buying one of these, just do it. it will revolutionise the way you listen to your music collection.
great product, troublesome setup January 13, 2008 A. Macpherson (somewhere, not here) bought one of the SB3, despite the new Duet coming out soon, largely on the basis of friends use. Once set up, this is a great product, simple - which is good - and good quality. However, setting it up came with a bit of a headache. Using a HP laptop running Vista Ultimate, connecting wirelessly through to a Linksys WAG300N router, AVG firewall in the background, although to be fair AVG gave no trouble. Also i use Network Magic, but this was of no help, everything was done through the router setup. In case this is of any use, my problem wasn't that the SB wasn't seen, more that is just wouldn't connect. Hopefully this may be of some use if in a similar position. After many tries, in summary, this si what worked for me, 1, reduce the security from PSK2 (WPA) to PSK 2, make sure that encryption is in the form of TSIK, not AEP 3, type in the MAC address into the allowed connections (and remember to add the address of the pc that you are using as well!!) Most routers are set up as auto. Thats it, follow the instruction booklet for the rest. First class product, now just have to rip more cds
Superb Item March 25, 2007 Kevin Shieber (Kent, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This item does exactly what it says on the tin (or box) I had it working within 10 minutes of its arrival... download Slimserver in advance and start ripping your CD collection... plug the squeezebox in and your away. Mine found the network instantly, found the server within seconds and has yet to let me down, no dropouts and high quality sound. I can't recommend this highly enough!
