3 out of 5 stars FINALLY it works, but oh the installation nightmare..........   March 30, 2008
titaniamoth (London UK)
Firstly, all praise to customer service of Logitech, who sent me this as a replacement to an earlier Logitech model (the 700) which had developed a fault with the keyboard. Still within the guarantee period (which is a generous one, as the 700 was over 2 years old) so I looked forward to the 710.

But installing, and then technical support, turned out to be a different story..........

Plug and play the 710 is not (at least with XP) Trying to connect the devices led nowhere,no mouse activity, no keyboard activity, and trying to run the software only yielded alarming messages saying it was not Windows approved and i would damage my PC if I installed it!

First call to Logitech resulted in the techie, after trying a few processes, assuring me the problem was not in the 710, but to do with my PC.

Called Dell, spent an hour on the phone to the Indian call centre, trying various solutions......predictably, they referred me back to Logitech.

Second call to Logitech and the new techie took a different approach, and assured me all would be solved if I downloaded drivers from the site rather than the included disc..........however i continued to get 'you are going to damage your PC' messages.

FINALLY the THIRD Logitech techie went through a different process, (and he did not seem surprised by the problems I had been having) involving repeating various manouevres again and again......and after about 20 minutes of cycling through over-riding various on-screen commands PC, mini receiver, mouse and keyboard all began chatting to each other with alacrity..........techie 3 (bless him!) did also say that techies 1 + 2 should have taken me through this procedure..........clearly, not all of them are as wised up to potential compatability probs. I'm interested to note that another reviewer who noted software probs also has XP.

Keyboard is great, not too sure yet about the mouse, it doesn't seem quite as natural a fit for my hand, but this may just be the fact I'm used to a slightly wider mouse from the previous model.

I'm just glad its installed!!! XP users, possibly, beware!

I bought this item (admittedly not from Amazon) and have had nothing but problems simply trying to install the software. Each time I have tried I have received errors and even when it seems to have worked successfully I found that it only operated the mouse and the important keys on the keyboard did not work at all. I could change the volume and open up windows media player, but not being able to type any actual characters is somewhat of an issue with a keyboard. After uninstalling and trying again it then decided that nothing would work at all. The Setpoint software seems to have major issues with my PC, which sadly is just an ordinary XP which has had few problems with other software installations, especially something like this from a large popular company. So sadly for whatever incompatibility reasons with my system I'm going to have to return this item, and I'm very weary of trying any other Logitech products like this again because of the software issues. Very sad because I do love Logitech, they actually design things well. Other people seem to have no issues like this so this is probably a one off case so do not fear too much.

4 out of 5 stars No complaints   April 12, 2007

The Keyboard is nicely shaped with keys that are pleasant to the touch when typing (essential to anyone who uses keyboards a lot). The function keys are well set up and the spare keys for user configuration come in handy.

I have had no problems with the mouse either. I find the extra buttons although they are small are well placed to be pressed by the bottom of your fingertips comfortably. I have experienced no erratic movement and have found the mose pointer glides smoothly across the screen in response to mouse movements.

The software is easy to install and both mouse and keyboard can be used without any need for user configuration (although more experienced users are able to delve in to the settings to customise them to their liking).

I have no complaints with this products and would happily recomend them to anyone!

2 out of 5 stars Nice keyboard, lousy mous   February 17, 2007

I purchased this keyboard and mouse combination to help cut down on the clutter of wires over my desk and it completes that task perfectly. Furthermore, no software is required to get to mouse and keyboard working, all the buttons of the mouse will function and the majority of those on the keyboard will, after simply plugging in the USB receiver.

The keyboard is of good quality, it is small and light and perfect for moving around a room. The main keys have a good feel to them, although the F keys are a little stiff and whilst the buttons on the side of the device are helpful, they are far too easy to knock accidently.

The mouse is a massive dissapointment on may levels. Firstly, it is very unnatural to use in terms of movement, especially once the software is installed, when it becomes very erratic. I use computers alot and this is the only mouse I've issues with, although it is the only laser mouse I've used. The 4th and 5th buttons are too small and badly located, making them impractical for common use. The scroll wheel is terrible, with it being close to impossible to click the mouse wheel without scrolling, it is certainly no use whilst gaming and of very little during web browsing and the like. The mouse wheel also has horizontal scrolling, which works but again, not very well.

After very little usage, the mouse complained of low batterys, but it has been fully functional for over 2 weeks since then.
