not sufficient November 29, 2000 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This book is not enough to pass the exam, it has nothing on conditional compilations, and not enough on deploying the application. I passed the exam but only after going through troytec exams and using MSDN to read about the topics that weren't in this book.
Below Expectations July 1, 2000 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This book falls well below the bar for passing the Desktop Applications for Visual Basic 6.0 exam. I ought to know, I carefully studied each chapter material, painstakingly completed every lab exercise, meticulously completed all the homework assignments at the end of each chapter, only to FLUNK the exam in style. For all its worth, this book is an introductory textbook for Visual Basic programmers. You'll need advanced study materials to pass the exam.
A Great Book to get you started September 25, 1999 matt@warhawk.connectfree.co.uk (England) This book was well worth reading. It points you in the right direction and then if you want to know more you can go to alternative sources.
Not suitable for exam 70-176 September 7, 1999 This book was supposed to drill into me all I would need to know for the exam (as the title says), NOT SO! Very good for getting started and a general overview but the exam consisted mainly of COM and deployment/installations which is not covered in enough depth in the book. I took the exam based on my confidence in this book and failed. Even on the supplied example test I scored over 90 first time but this bore no relation to the real thing.
This book helped me pass with no previous knowledge of VB August 19, 1999 I did a quick week of basic Visual Basic study then started on this book. This with the help of the MSDN Help menu in Visual Basic 6.0 (invaluable and infact where most of the info in the book comes from) and some sample exams was all I needed. Book is easy to read and concise. When using - make sure you download the corrections to the exercises before you begin.
