| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.co.uk Review Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional has a lot of things going for it, but useful online documentation--particularly if you are not totally clueless about what you want to do and how to do it--is not one of them. Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Expert Companion does a good job of explaining how to use the operating system in terms that, while often too basic for the "Expert" mentioned in the title, won't insult the intelligence of a generally capable Windows 2000 user. If you are an administrator of a Windows 2000 network, you would be wise to keep this book on hand as a resource for users who come to you with questions about how to make adjustments to their workstations. It will come in handy when you have to tweak user machines yourself as well.Authors Craig Stinson and Carl Siechert provide lots of background information on numerous topics and frequently insert useful blurbs on potential pitfalls. (They cover easily neglected stuff, like forgetting to open a port in your firewall for time-synchronisation services.) Where appropriate, Stinson and Seichert give you step-by-step instructions for accomplishing tasks, reinforced by tables that enumerate options and alternatives. Overall, this is a highly effective (if unexciting) book about configuring Windows 2000 Professional. --David Wall

an excellent book for the expert & the beginner! February 24, 2002 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I think this is an excellent book! It is definitely worth buying! It covers everything you need to know about Windows 2000 Professional. Tips tricks and workarounds are presented in a clear manner. The topics that are covered range from Setup, Networking, User management, Security issues, scripts, print & web servers and much more which might be useful to you if you are running win2k! Every topic that is covered is well illustrated with examples so that one can be sure to use & adjust the O/S the way you want it. An introduction to each section gives you a good idea, what will be covered. Screenshots illustrate the descriptive explanation and help you where necessary. In case you are an expert or maybe just want to read up on something main sections are broken apart into single useful steps. This book shows you how to make more out of your Windows! Honestly, there is not one bad thing about this book so far! The contents of the CD include a NetMeeting Ressource Kit, IE Admin Kit and other useful shareware software that helps you maintain and speed up your PC. The price for nearly 800 pages of advice is nothing, compared to what you get out of this companion.
