So much more user friendly than the 98 version. January 26, 2005 S. Morris (Staffs, UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
For starters, note that the book does NOT come with a 60 day evaluation version of project 2000. Microsoft have removed it from the CD in the later versions (bless there little cotton socks). That said, I'm glad that I did not send the book back as it is so much better written and more user friendly than the project 98 version. For starters, you have only one project document to follow through from start to end. Not a different document for every chapter. The writing style is freindly and interesting. It's over a hundred pages longer than the 98 book but you can comfortably read it in a couple of days and you also come away with a real feeling that you understand not just the functionality of the product but how to apply it in real world situations. If I had known when I bought it tht it did not come with the evaluation software I would not have bought it as I already had the 98 version of the book. Such would have been a mistake as it's miles better than it's predecessor and well worth the investment.
For Newbies and Refreshers alike October 18, 2004 Kate Long (Great Britain) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Like all Step by Step books in the Microsoft range this comes with a CD which takes you through all the exercises covered in the book. The book starts with the basics and progresses to the more complicated functions of MS Project so you can build project plans and gain confidence using the functions already covered. There is a comprehensive glossary of MS Project terminology and Project Management terminology as well as a section on basic project management principles. Therefore if you are new to project management or new to MS Project - this could be the only book you'll need.
A good reference November 2, 2003 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This is a good book for someone who has some knowledge of Project. However I did find at points the explainations a bit difficult to follow. I would not recommend this to someone who is trying to learn Project on their own but would definately recommend it to someone who has had some exposure to it.
An excellent tutorial for an essential software product September 28, 2001 David Webb 109 out of 113 found this review helpful
Microsoft Project is a large and complex product, often used only to a fraction of its capability. This Step by Step guide is a well structured tutorial, covering all the major points, and leaving the user of MS Project well placed to consolidate the knowledge gained. The many exercises have been carefully prepared, and are well documented. The exercise scenarios, based around the making of films and videos, are straightforward to understand. The book comes with a 60-day licence for MS Project, so you don't need to pay 400 for the software in order to learn how to use it. The combination of a well written book, the exercises, and the 60-day licence for Microsoft Project, makes this an absolute bargain. One caveat - this is not a book to learn about Project Management - it is just about using the MS Project software.
