Amazon.co.uk Review With the release of a major upgrade to any large software system comes the challenge of how to implement and integrate its features with the rest of the environment. As part of Microsoft's BackOffice suite since its introduction in 1996, Exchange 2000 Server represents version 6.0 of their powerful messaging and groupware product. With it comes even closer integration with the Windows operating system.Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Administrator's Companion covers the implementation of Exchange Server from initial strategy and planning through to deployment. Written in a straightforward style, this well-designed hardback reference provides an excellent overview for administrators needing to deploy Exchange 2000 Server in any size of organisation. The book begins with an outline of the wealth of new features of Exchange 2000 including administrative groups, routing groups and policies. Section two is devoted to planning your information infrastructure and laying the good foundations fundamental to the smooth operation of any network. Following sections deal with the issues of deployment, installation of clients and maintenance, plus a section providing a more detailed description of the new features outlined earlier. In this section, individual chapters are devoted to the Chat Service, Instant Messaging, clustering, security and connecting to other messaging systems. The authors admit that no one-volume reference can adequately cover all of the features of such an extensive system. However, along with the accompanying CD, this book should prove to be a valuable addition to any Network Administrator's library. --Peter Lunn

An excellent introduction to Exchange 2000 Server January 22, 2001 stanyau@burbank.co.uk (Aberdeen, UK) 44 out of 49 found this review helpful
This book is an excellent resource to introduce you to the basics of Exchange 2000 Server. All or Exchange Server's features are introduced and carefully explained. It also presents a good overview of the innards of Exchange 2000 Server, and how it differs from Exchange 5.5.If you're new to Exchange 2000, or indeed to Exchange in general, then this book is a must-buy. Note that the book covers only the Server and, to a lesser extent, the Enterprise Server editions. Apart from a few sentences, Conferencing Server is not covered here.
