4 out of 5 stars Flawed classic   December 7, 2008

The post nuclear world is fantastic with so much character and depth. The plot is good, the humour is dark and the combat is fine. It can be very addictive at times.

However too few sprites are used for the areas. Load up a game and you could be in one of a hundred different places. Some of the quests are unfair, or are timed so you can end up with a worse ending just because you enjoyed exploring, or have a stat reduced in certain fights that you win. If you don't mind replaying, using walkthroughs or enjoy the fact futility adds to the sense of doom its not a problem. I'm just warning you that its not all handed to you on a plate!

Some of you might consider my criticism of the graphics of an old game they love as wrong. However the first one was criticised heavily for it in reviews on release and the second one had no excuses for containing no engine improvements over the first.

5 out of 5 stars Fallout is probably the best computer role playing game ever made!   November 12, 2008
Andrew Blower
Fallout is not perfect, what is, but it's definitely in the top three role playing games of all time. Personally I, and many others, would put it in the top slot. What makes it so good is that it can be played in many different ways with many different type of characters. You can decide what kind of role you wish to play, and the game will not force you to solve every problem by killing things regardless. (which the majority of RPG's do) The world is well fleshed out and internally consistent which gives an incredible atmosphere. With many different ways to play and choices to make it's a very replayable game.

It can take a bit of acclimatising to, as it's not just an ego massager like many modern games, so stick with it for a bit because the game you'll experience will be worth it once you get going.

Fallout 2 is bigger and sillier at times, but does retain a lot of the good points of the original. I've never played tactics, but it's a spin off in the same universe so don't expect another RPG there.

5 out of 5 stars The greatest role-playing game of all time   October 22, 2008
B. Kelly (UK)
Two games you simply MUST play- Fallout 1 & 2 are the greatest role-playing games ever- the best games I have ever played, with amazing replay value. I have been through both games repeatedly and have now lost count- they are both dated now but the atmosphere is so intoxicating. The freedom of choice is captivating- such an open world and so many different choices to make, you will be immersed. Great characters, great stories, amazing game play- buy it, but it now for these games are true classics. 10 years on since I originally played fallout and I am currently replaying it ONCE AGAIN and still thoroughly enjoy it. Fallout 2 is so vast and fun it's hard to imagine these games ever being surpassed in their genre- it is yet to happen.

5 out of 5 stars The Fallout Series are great!   August 2, 2008
Mr. Richard Thomas (United Kingdom)
I actually bought this package over a year ago and forgot to leave a response (oops).
But it is a remarkable package!
Fallout 1 has to be my favourite out of the whole package, it must be said it is a fascinating game!
It has crude and sometimes sick humour, but that's exactly what i love about this game, it's hilarious.

Fallout 2 is ok, i'm finding it a bit slow to start with (unless you're not meant to use guns at all in it....) but still a good game.

The Brotherhood of Steel game is all right.
It has taken quite a bit of slating from the hardcore fans, but it does what it intended to do.
Make a squad based Brotherhood of Steel game.
It didn't do it as well as i had expected, but hey, see it as a "bonus game" to Fallout 1 and 2.

There was only one problem that i did find (might be my system however).
When i run this game on Windows XP (even after changing properties to Windows 95) it would only play on a very small section in the centre of my scree, with the rest blanked out.
You know, like when you see a widescreen film and it has those black strips?
So if anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, i'll be glad to take them.

I would recommend this game to all RPG fans, veteran Fallout players (you know who you are!) and people who love games because of their humour.

5 out of 5 stars the best games ever   July 28, 2008

I baught the series on dvd just because I beleived the series would be patched and would save messing arround each time I install. Needless to say the patches are on the dvd but they are the old CD patches. Also most of the mods online change the installation to look for a CD. Anyway I won't try to beat any of the reviews on here, fallout 1+2 have been the cause of countless sleepless nights for me and have always stayed in the pile of games to play through again. If you like rpg's and have a lot of paitence you will be well rewarded. If you don't maybe you would be better off with a game you don't need a brain to play!
