Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
A true digital jewel, the LifeCam NX-6000 webcam from Microsoft accompanies you everywhere so you can benefit from teleconferencing. It has been conceived for laptop computers and has a 2 Megapixel folding sensor for video (with a resolution of 1600 x 1190 pixels) and 7.6 Megapixels for fixed images. The LifeCam NX-6000 webcam is optimised for Windows Live Messenger and has a great precision microphone for better user-comfort. In addition, its 3x digital zoom is very convenient for focusing on a precise field element.

4 out of 5 stars Good buy but may dissapoint some   October 11, 2008

Purchaed this webcam based on the various reviews -

Positives:

Small and compact
Connects neatly to the lid of the laptop
Camera pushes into the body and protects it
Comes with a carry case

Negatives:
Really is only for a laptop and this is how it is marketed
The holder for clipping on the lid is not adjustable for thicker laptop lids - may not fit bigger laptops
Quite a lot of movement fade at the higher resolutions and you cannot go above 320x240 as it becomes very bad.

Conclusion:
If you are looking for a portable webcam that you can carry about easily then in my opinion this is good value at around 40 - however it does have limitations and you would be better going for an alternaive if you are looking to use it on a desktop.

I have used much better performing desktop webcams.

5 out of 5 stars Very good webcam   September 12, 2008

I bought this to replace a Logitech webcam which was great on XP but useless on Vista.
Installed in minutes and no downloads needed with the latest software supplied.
The picture quality is superb and the design is exceptional.
It is a notebook webcam so it doesn't fit properly on a desktop VDU, but all I did was clip it to the top of a picture frame on the desk and it works just fine.
Not only excellent picture quality but the sound is good too.
Its fixed focus but that doesn't seem to cause any problems.
The USB cable is fine for a laptop but you will need to buy an extension cable to use it with a desktop as it is very short.
You can move the picture angle up, down, left and right from the on screen adjustment software which can also add some very good visual effects for fun.
The lens can be moved manually up and down and also retracts into the webcam shell when not in use.
There is a noticeable time-lag when you make a video at the maximum resolution but with so much available adjustment on the webcam you can get round that.
Very good purchase and highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Bin cheap webcams   June 17, 2008

I have had a cheap labtec webcam for the past 3 years, its served it's purpose, but having just bought this one from Amazon, I now realise why I needed to invest in a better one. The picture is bright and sharp, and is easy to fit on my sony vaio laptop, It wouldn't be much use for pc as the lead is not very long, it is however ideal for a laptop. I am amazed at the clarity, and really pleased I bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Lifecam NX-6000 - a fantastic piece of kit!   January 17, 2008

I've just taken delivery of this webcam, and am seriously impressed. I have tried various webcams in the past, and while most of them captured a reasonable image, they were all seriously below the standard one would really want. The NX-6000 isn't. It captures video at 2MP resolution, which is very high quality, and the image is clear, crisp and well coloured. The still image capture is 7.2MP (assisted by software), and might as well be taken by a proper digital camera. It is genuinely high quality.
The webcam is very easy to install; even with Windows Vista, everything installs itself and you're ready to use it with Windows Live Messenger straight away. It automatically adjusts settings to suit the light, and I couldn't fail to notice the superior quality of the image this resulted in. I turned off the main light in my room to check this feature, and the image adjusted instantly to a properly exposed version. Previous webcams, even those with auto-adjusting exposure, have failed to do this adequately.
I am seriously impressed by this piece of equipment, and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to spend reasonable money (c. 45) on a webcam. You might just find one that comes close, but I seriously doubt you will find anything better for your money!

4 out of 5 stars Designed for laptop users   August 27, 2007

Good:
Like the picture quality.
Software has all the zoom functions and controls needed
If using with Vista you need to download the latests drivers (120 MB !)
Comes with a zip case and the camera also closes into the body so the lense is protected when not being used.
Supports higher res video capture than normal for standard web cams (but most web cams are bound by network performance anyway)
Looks cool.

Bad:
USB cable is short (50 cm)
The camera mounting clip and the short cable are really designed for use with a laptop. For this price it would be nice to have a standard screen mount included in the kit with a cable extender.
No easy way to mount the camera on a normal LCD screen you have to just rest it there.
No focus adjustement.
