3 out of 5 stars Better   December 18, 2008
D Deacon (Liverpool, England)
This seems better than previous versions. Seems not to be such a resources hog and seems more stable. It auto updates. You can add a firewall and a spyware program to compete your security. You might though be better off with an integrated package. Symantec do one of those too.

3 out of 5 stars Norton easy programme to install   December 15, 2008
Guitar Heroine (Liverpool, England.)
I already had some anti virus software on my laptop, and when I tried to install this software, I was told to uninstall what I already had on the computer. This wasn't so easy to do, and even after this was done, I had some difficulty adding Norton.

It has also wiped the DRM info from my settings, meaning I cannot access certain online TV channels or radio stations, and I am currently unable to mend this.

However, it has seemed to do its job in protecting my computer and files from viruses.

1 out of 5 stars Firewall warning   December 5, 2008
Nuff
If you use another company's firewall, be warned. This 2009 version may conflict with it. I have been running Zonealarm and the computer locked up - this is a known problem (lot's on internet). I then tried Ashampoo Pro Free and still encountered some problems. I'm now reluctantly using the Windows XP firewall. I've been with Symantec for many years but will be looking elsewhere when the subscription expires unless these issues are resolved.

3 out of 5 stars the end of the line...   November 25, 2008

As an antivirus software package- Norton is capable of doing the job you paid for it. It is a system that will defend the computers in your home and it is possible not to pull your hair out whilst installing it as I have done with previous antivirus software packages. But alas my friends, this will probably be the last antivirus you will buy due to microsoft announcing the end of their One care antivirus system and giving it free in 2009.
The penny drops - why buy antivirus software if there is an adequate replacement available for free.
Microsoft do have a habit of stuffing things up and getting products late to market but it does beg the question - why buy a product which you could be getting for free....

5 out of 5 stars Reliable, durable and dependable.   November 19, 2008
Mr. Philip Harkins (London)
Norton... hard to review as it is so slick, and performs brilliantly. Latest tweaks to the programme are resource friendly updates, a new method of deep cleaning an infected PC or laptop if you are unlucky enough to have to install this on an infected machine, and of course the new licence feature, meaning you can install this programme on 3 machines running Windows (XP or Vista) in the same household. So, in summary this is the bare bones anti virus programme; If you need more of a complete suite of automated PC or laptop care Norton sells that in the form of Internet Security, or 360.
Well worth the money, simple to use, and of course extremely well tested and trusted.
Oh... it does rather need broadband for updates though, and gets rather cranky if you have a dial up connection, you can adapt the settings in it to compensate, but this is reasonably simple. Essential bit of kit though.
