Amazon.co.uk Review Age of Mythology is the latest instalment from the Age of Empires stable. The basic principles remain the same as the previous versions. Gather resources, build armies and then fight. Mythology however is such a huge leap forward technically; the graphics are amongst the finest yet seen in an RTS, from beautiful waves crashing against sandy beaches to the detailed armour on individual soldiers. Everything oozes quality and helps immerse the player into the game. The major difference between the previous Age of titles is the inclusion of the mystical and magical. The protagonists this time are the Greeks, Egyptians and Norsemen. Each one using well-known mythical monsters, heroes and Gods in their quests. Medusa, Scarab beetles and Frost Giants can be thrown together in a clash of the titans better than any movie! Gameplay is superb and the difficulty levels are pitched correctly, This is a real joy to play. On the downside there is only one single player campaign (lengthy though it is)--that of the Atlantean Arkantos and his quest against evil forces, campaigns for the Norse and Egyptian elements would have been very welcome. This is a great title for both first time strategy gamers and hardened RTS veterans. -- Laurent S Hall

The best from the 'Age of...' series July 10, 2008 Snowy3 (UK) I think this is one of my fave games of all time! and i have quite a few faves!. It follows the format of the other Age of Empires type games but i thought it was really good how the element of mythology was added!. Age of empires is great - you have soliders, horses, bowmen etc but in this you can have giants, medusa and sphinx!! how great is that!. I also liked the senerios as some were loosly based on real myths which made them even more interesting. This is a great game - one to take your time over! you wont be disappointed. I could easily drop my Wii games and have a bash at this time and time again. It is a timeless classic!
good title March 12, 2007 Sam (York, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
As far as strategy games are concerned, we all know that the Age series is very impressive. I tried Age of Mythology a few days ago, it is quite good actually. Nevertheless, do not try it after you play Age of Empires III. Although the concept is different but in core there are similarities. You will be disappointed a bit with the speed of the game and the resourse gathering abilities. This game would be a lot better if it had the AOEIII pace and graphics. Saying that, the game is quite nice, the mythology element is very nice touch. It is quite fun to play as well, especially when you have some cool god powers. What is annoying is that it could be very slow sometimes, and the resource gathering is a headache. It needs a lot of improvements. It is certainly worth playing, it is original and good fun.
Great fun! December 20, 2005 crumb (Surrey, United Kingdom) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
It is really good fun to play on and it's not very hard. I think the graphics are quite good and the mythical beasts are really cool. I liked this game a lot!
Probably the best game by Ensemble Studios May 7, 2005 Mr. O. M. Galal (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have played this game many a times and i have found it very exciting and interesting the graphics on AOM my be a bit out of date for today's standards but the gameplay of it is fantastic if you have ever played Age of Empires you will love this it has a pretty good storyline whole gods are angry must apease them and the custom games against the computer are wonderful but get harder the more players there are i think this is a must have game.
BEST STRATEGY GAME BY MICROSOFT!!!!!!! March 27, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
i have played the previous games such as Age of Empires 1 and Age of Empires 2 and also the all of the expansion packs for the games as well. When I got Age of Mythology i was stunned by the improvements and also the graphic improvements especially. The thing I love about the game is that mythology is an excellent idea particually for battles in the game as well. AOM is also very gory as well in the battles lots of blood also. The civlizations you can play are the Greeks the Egyptians and the Norse and they alol have diffrent unit types also a choice of mythological creatures as well. You advance through the ages like you do in Age of Empires but you do it by choosing which minor god you are going to worship and you get various units and improvements out of them (can't name em all!) Overall AOM is another sucessful title by Microsoft buy it now you won't regret it!!!!!
