Amazing bit of kit June 13, 2008 Mr. Phil Truett (Woking) This is an amazing bit of kit if you want to wirelessly link your iTunes to your stereo. Connection problems were eliminated by changing the broadcast channel so that it did not interfere with other wireless networks locally (including my own). I had the same problem with my Netgear wireless router and apparently the drop out is to do with interference if the channel number is near other networks as out of the box they default to the same channel. i hope this helps. Enjoy!
Short life span May 18, 2008 Mike Mccartney (London) My airport express stopped working yesterday after just over 2 years of service. Reading various other reviews, I almost believe that I'm lucky it didn't stop working earlier. Disappointing and not great value for money.
Great piece of kit! December 28, 2007 jem (New Forest, UK) My son gave one of these to me as a belated Christmas present today. I had it up and running within half an hour, although I didn't think the instructions were very clear. In the end, I just thought it through and winged it. So far I have only used it to play iTunes through my hi-fi system and the result is spectacularly good. I'm not anticipating any difficulty in getting it to work with a printer. I must add that, as usual with Apple, everything is beautifully presented and packaged. I wonder if people who have had reliability problems leave it switched on all the time. I have a Belkin Modem/Router and the separate power supply for that failed after 18 months or so. I simply bought a replacement from Maplins, but that's not an option with the AirPort. I think I shall be switching it off when I know I won't be using it.
Great with a Mac November 22, 2007 MacBore (Herts) I've been using my AirPort Express for about three years now and have had no problems with it. For the first couple of years (in the days before wireless routers) I used it with a ADSL-Nation X-Modem LE for wireless broadband. Now I'm on Sky Broadband, who give you a free Netgear wireless modem, I've been using it with Airtunes in iTunes. It works fine, as long as you don't have to many walls full of electrical cables in the way. The same goes with the wireless printing, as if you're too far away, it won't work. Nevertheless, it saves you from having to hunt under your desk for the printer cable. As most broadband ISPs give away free wireless modems, I recommend the Airport Express if you don't fancy running miles of speaker cable through your house.
No problems with Vista! November 8, 2007 saltire 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Don't be put off by comments about connectivity issues in Windows Vista networks - I have a Vista and XP home network and found the following worked for me. 1. Plug in the Airport and connect directly to your router with an ethernet cable. 2. If you have mac address filtering, log on to the router, switch it off and search for attached devices. Add the Airport to the allowed device list and turn filtering back on. 3. Disconnect from router - should now have a green light 4. Install the Airport software on the PC you want to use - latest version works on Vista. 5. Run Airport utility and follow the configuration options to set device name, passwords etc. 6. Connect Airport to stereo 7. Run ITunes and select your Airport from the list in the bottom right hand corner of the ITunes screen. 8. If you want to use it as a print server run the Bonjour for Windows utility to set up your printer - then change the printer port of your default printer to the newly added IP_Airport.. port in the printer properties> ports option
