you get what you paid for. July 4, 2008 A. hye (London) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After reading the five star reviews I decided to buy it. I've been using it for a day. The reviewers who gave it five stars and said that they listen to "itunes", " heavy rock, vocal and classical" and "watching DVDs or listening to CDs" need to get their ears tested. This is completely unsuitable for listen to music. The speakers aren't up to it. I'm using it to listen to podcasts and talk radio stations online. Good points. Works out of the box (I have vista). I didn't have to install any drivers. Small and very light. No power adapter or mains power needed. Value for money. The sound is what I expect for 10. Bad points There is a yellowy/green light on one of the speakers which is very annoying especially because the leads are very short so it's impossible to position outside the field of vision.
A Little overrated June 29, 2008 Mr. K. A. Parhad (Nottingham) I bought these speakers after reading the thoughts of other amazon customers, who all bar one gave rave reviews.I have to admit that when set up i was rather disappointed.Altough the sound quality is quite good it is no better than the built in speakers of my laptop (Toshiba 1.66 GHZ). On the plus side with windows vista you just plug in and your away .
Not as good as reviews suggest May 3, 2008 Ger (N. ireland) I recently bought these speakers for a laptop - and to be honest the internal laptop speakers are better (and they arent up to much) - Maybe I was expecting too much given previous reviews. I found sound is tinny, theres a major lack of bass and the maximum volumn level I could get out of them was pretty poor. But I suppose at the price its a case of getting what you pay for.
Cheap and cheerful March 29, 2008 Manzoku (UK) Have to agree with the reviews below. Bought these so my wife could listen to Youtube videos on her ancient Pentium III (no sound card of any description, but with an add-on USB 2 card in it). Plugged in, XP recognised and installed USB sound without any fuss, worked straight away. You have to have realistic expectations of the sound quality, but it is more than acceptable in a home environment for non-critical listening. Remarkable considering the size and price. I think these are designed for laptop use, so the USB cable that runs from one of the speakers to the PC is a bit on the short side if you're plugging it into a PC under a desk, but if that's an issue extension cables are cheap enough.
Works great on Linux February 13, 2008 Jonathan Mccullagh (Newry, Ireland) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just arrived today and I am very pleased. The speakers are nice and small (just bigger than my small fist) and the sound is great considering the price. Loud and clear enough for listening to music and movies on the go while not loud enough to annoy any neighbours. Up and running in seconds on my Ubuntu Linux (v 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon) laptop choosing System -> Preferences -> Sound and setting each of the drop down menus to the newly available 'USB Audio'. It just works!
