Product Description Audioengine 5 is a full-size speaker system in a bookshelf-sized package. Internal power amps eliminate the need to connect the Audioengine 5 to a bulky stereo receiver or power amplifier. And with built-in subwoofer ports, the Audioengine 5 adds incredible low-end bass without the need for an external subwoofer. Designed for optimal ease of setup and versatility, the Audioengine 5 has a built-in power port for iPod charging while listening to your music, watching movies, or playing games. Plug an Apple Universal Dock or iPod directly into the Audioengine Combo Port and you're ready to rock (or roll). The Combo Port charger is compatible with the nano and video iPod as well as all other products that charge via USB.audioengine 5 speaker rear viewAirport Express Power

Great with a Squeezebox March 6, 2008 Nick (Berkshire, England) I bought a pair of these to go in the bedroom with a Logitech wireless Squeezebox as the input source and have been impressed with them. The sound is great for the price, and the convenience of the USB charging socket on the top and the power outlet on the rear (so I only need to use one socket for the speakers and Squeezebox) tops it off. Highly recommended, although the lack of grille over the front may be an issue if you have inquisitive kids that like to poke thier fingers in things.
awesome! April 5, 2007 J. Sammon (Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
after having checked out every type of ipod/computer speaker set up going for under about 400 i found this set of bookshelf speakers from USA outfit audioengine - having a look at their website will make you realise how much these guys obsess over sound quality! and its not lost on these two speakers sure you're thinking well i quite want a subwoofer for bass, trust me you won't feel the need after hearing these (if you really do you can plug in a powered sub anyway!). they still make me speechless with the amount of crystal clear noise they kick out even running from my vaio laptop with pretty useless sound card. from an ipod they are even better. i haven't had the guts to turn them up beyond half way on the volume knob as it hurts my face, but there is no sign of a decrease in quality. the ratings on their website are definately conservative. as for the look and feel they're awesome, even cooler than my old jbl creatures. added to this the usb charge dock and airtunes style power output at the back they are sheer genius. audiophile? i am now. buy these. buy them now.
