1 out of 5 stars A dying format. Not worth buying Ram discs!   July 6, 2008
Track Master (UK)
I would not even bother to waste money in buying Panasonic's favorite format the DVD-Ram, which is a dying format. This DVD-Ram will not play anywhere unless you have a particular/specific DVD Ram player/recorder that would play them such as the Panasonic brand. Do not entrust all your recordings to this format becuase it will not play on any machine and if your Panasonic player should fail at some point, how are you going to transfer your most treasured stuff to an ordinary DVD?

4 out of 5 stars Great with the right DVD recorder, not so good otherwise   January 26, 2008

Just to confirm what other reviewers have said - these discs come in a cartridge and getting them out is a bit of a pain. I've never actually done it though, because my parents and I both have Panasonic DMR-E50 DVD recorders which we bought in 2003. Machines of that vintage are designed to take these discs, so if you have one, then these discs work really well. Of course if you want to play them on any other machine, you'll need to get them out of the cartridge.

So if you've got the right machine, go ahead - otherwise, get some discs which don't come in a cartridge.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent discs   July 8, 2007

These are great dvd's, unlike other people i found them very easy to remove from their case. they are designed to be either used in the case if you have a compatable dvd recorded or out of it. The cartridge is a great idea to prevent fingerprints or damage to the disk.

5 out of 5 stars Great disks once you have worked out how to get them out of the case   June 12, 2007

The disks do say they can be removed from the case as I needed to for my Panasonic player. The instructions are not very clear, a magnifying glass would help to see the little plugs you need to push out to release the disks!

The plugs are about 3mm (1/8") diameter. You can see the ends of the plugs looking on the main face of the cartridge, about 12 mm from one of the short edges with the orange plastic insert (the opposite side to the side with the spring loaded slidey grey plastic bit). You need to hold the disk near the edge of a flat surface and push the plugs quite hard with a ballpoint to shear them off and fall out the other side.

You then need to release one end of the orange plastic insert by deflecting the integral spring by pressing a ballpoint pen tip through the rectangular window just round one of the corners from one of the plugs as you pull on the insert. The orange plastic insert will then hinge out of the way.

1 out of 5 stars Understand what you require - rating not applicable in my case   February 10, 2007

Having recently bought a Panasonic DVD recorder, I recalled an insert advising the best media was Panasonic DVD RAM. Being new to DVD recorders I ordered the above believing they were just discs. Having re-read the manufacturers description onthe site "9.4GB DVD-RAM Double Sided Blank Disc with Caddy - 3 Pack" I still dont think I would have realised these are cartridge type discs. I suspect I would have interpreted the caddy as being a case to store the disc in. "Panasonic 3x speed, 9.4GB, double sided 3 pack DVD-RAM Disc".
