Farewell Epson...... August 19, 2008 I. R. Bateman (Durham, United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After years of stubborn loyalty to Epson printers I finally got tired of buying expensive inks just to clean the print head. Now I have this great little printer from Canon and it actually prints photo's, very good quality photo's with no streaking. It is extremely simple to install, looks great and performs very quietly. You need a very powerful magnifying glass to see any difference between the Canon prints and photo lab prints. For the price, it would be difficult to find a better printer.
Super August 19, 2008 Professional cynic (Wales UK) I had been using a iP3000 for a long time and was very happy with it - but when I changed to Vista it stopped working properly - coincidence or built-in obsolescence? I am cynical! So I bought the iP4500 which arrived in two days and proved to be noticeably better than the iP3000. As I use a laser my main reason for purchase was the CD/DVD printing which is excellent! The only bones of contention are that everything about this printer is just a tiny bit different from the iP3000 so you can't keep spares, especially the cartridges where only the addition of the chip changes them. It causes me to believe that Canon are solely interested in maximising profits so I am very suspicious of the demise of the old one. That said, it is easily the best printer in it's class and the old one was very economical with its ink, so if this is as good I will probably bite the bullet and buy Canon cartridges.
If you want quality photos get this August 12, 2008 David Fleet (United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying that this printer is a quality product at a reasonable price. After many days of searching and reading reviews I was pretty set on having a canon printer to go with my EOS 450d as it seems they have the best print quality for photos. I finally opted for this printer due to its very high quality photo output thanks to its ink system and industry leading droplet size. Setting up the printer was very straightforward and althought the provided instructions are not the best it only took about 20 mins. The printer itself feels well made and looks very stylish alhtough finger marks do show up on the shiny surface. Do note that the printer doesnt come with a USB 2 link cable to connect to your pc, Which i thought was a cheek. The printer has a rear paper tray and also a cassette which is located at the bottom of the printer on the front side. To fit A4 paper in, the cassette does have to be extended beyond the front of the printer but its not a problem. As for the printing , i was amazed by the speed and detail of the prints it produces. Printing A4 photos takes no longer than 15-20 seconds when on the highest detail settings and produces lab quality prints. Ive already had many people asking me to photograph and print pictures for them due to the quality it produces. This printer seems to be reasonbly economical with ink usage, ive printed off 17 A4 size prints and the ink levels have only just decreased. It seems that some people have had problems regarding compatible ink for this printer due to the chips on the ink tanks, i myself will stick to genuine ink which can be found cheaply enough on amazon.Canon CLI-8C - Chromalife 100 - Cyan Ink Cartridge - 8 Overall I am totaly satisfied with this printer and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting the flexibility of printing their own photos.
Beware !! Stopped working two weeks after purchase July 31, 2008 KDS27 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Bought this on 7th July. Used a couple of times to print pics. Turned it on and it says that the print head is not working. Now I have to send it off to the manufacturer. Bough to replace my epson which worked perfectly for 4yrs.
The bees knees July 29, 2008 J. Young (Derby UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is really the bees knees when it comes to home printing, which I have been doing since pre Windows 95 so a few printers have been and gone. Easy set up,fast and excellent print quality, even my son is impressed, not done enough yet to comment on running costs but from other reviews do not expect any problems there.
