Good value for money, but.... August 2, 2005 Simon Watkins (Bucks, England) 29 out of 29 found this review helpful
This monitor is excellent value for money, so please keep my criticism in context. If all you want is a general purpose screen to use for Gaming, Word Processing etc, then this is hard to beat. However, if you have more critical applications such as for Photo Editing, then please consider spending a little bit more. The problem is that the electronics for this panel are not the best that I've seen in terms of controlling the screen. The contrast control is ineffective over much of its range, and just controls a degree of "blooming" on the screen. The Brightness control is similarly ineffective and doesn't offer enough range. Further, the colour accuracy and gamma calibration leave a lot to be desired, and it was almost impossible to set this up accurately enough for rigourous photo editing work. Most apparent was poor control of black levels, and despite the rated contrast of 500:1, I often felt that midtones were undersaturated and washed out. Compared with a Dell 18" I also own, the screen had nowhere near the contrast, and the Dell is rated at 400:1 (so much for specs!?). So, some aspects were disappointing, and for my needs I couldn't live with it. I thus returned mine, and will save up the additional 100 or so that will buy me a monitor with a somewhat higher fidelity. On the plus side, the screen I had did not have any dead pixels or sub pixels whatsoever. It was a colourful enough display with a fast enough response for gaming and non critical activity. Not the last word in design or physical build quality, but good enough in that department. Buy if you are on a budget, and are willing to make compromises.
Great Product - exactly what I wanted July 30, 2005 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I dont think it can be beaten for value at the moment. Easy to set up and use with a very good sharp image, no dead pixels, and so much more space on the desk than with the smaller CRT that this screen has replaced. Didn't particularly want built-in speakers, most reports say they are "tinny" so preferred to stick with my old labtecs which tuck nicely behind the screen and sound ok. Am very pleased with this monitor. Very highly recommended
Just What I Needed July 15, 2005 Ken Sweet (Hucknall, Notts United Kingdom) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
This TFT is exactly what I wanted - don't need speakers -which only create a bulky surround to most monitors- I think most people have a separate system anyway. Don't need to worry about being unable to rotate the screen for portrait view because the screen is big enough anyway. The resolution is excellent throughout the full range. A perfect screen for anyone who works a lot with photographs as I do and needs a good sized image for detailed manipulation. Can't fault it.
Awesome! June 28, 2005 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
Absoloutely amazing! This TFT's at a great price, and comes with a years warranty. The scren is excellent quality, and the borfer is really thin, very sexy. The reason it doesnt get 5 stars is because unfortunately the screen cannot be tilted or swivelled to portrait view. Other than this, this TFT is definately worth the money, as you're paying very little for a 19", it's a very good deal, and with the chea price, you don't sacrifice anything. I would highly recommend this.
