Product Description
Xbox Live is an online multiplayer gaming and content delivery system that allows registered users to create their own friends list of other users, and communicate with them via a mail-like system of either text or voice messages which can even be used to send a message to an offline user. With the new Xbox Live Vision camera, users can also send snapshot images to offline friends or video conference with them when they?re online. With the launch of the Xbox 360, Xbox Live went through a major change. The most notable change is the establishment of two subscription types, called Silver and Gold. Xbox Live Silver is free to all Xbox 360 owners. While it does not allow access to online play, it still has access to other Xbox Live features such as the friends list, messages, and the Xbox Live Marketplace. Xbox Live Gold, which requires a monthly or yearly subscription fee, allows users to access all available features on Xbox Live. Although there are no parental controls available in Xbox Live, any reports of misuse of the service for criminal or sexual purposes results in a permanent ban of the account. Key Features: Xbox Live has a number of great community-focused features and benefits such as: Gamertags - for user identification Avatars - gamer pictures for association with gamer tags Mottos - for display on gamer profiles Gamer zones - which represents your gaming style and influences player matchmaking (Recreation, Pro, Family, Underground) Game achievements - shows how well you and your friends are doing in a game Reputation rating - voted on by other players who decide to either prefer or avoid another player Gamerscores - a total of a player's achievement points Friends list - a list of a player's chosen friends Recent player list - lists the last 50 players one user has played with Xbox Live Marketplace content - download demos, trailers, new and retro games Multiplayer online gameplay - play against other gamers across the globe Enhanced m

5 out of 5 stars Xbox Live- Essential   May 28, 2008

Personally i always thought why buy an expensive Xbox 360 console if you're not going to purchase Xbox Live. I have a PS3 and can tell you that this is the best online service, you can message, private chat, video chat, recommend online content to friend and much much more. When playing a game on live its like unlocking the other half of that game and you really get you're 40 worth then. I would also recommend a microphone if you plan to game with friends.

Xbox live is a must have for you're 360!

Gives you so much more than just the single player games. Lets you keep in contact with mates and great to communicate whilst playing a game. Worth the money, especially now with the extra chapters on GTA IV available only to Xbox live subscribers!

5 out of 5 stars X Box live is the best on line service BUT DONT BUY HERE.... YET!   April 25, 2008

Yup all who actually own / played / seen it in action know how much X Box live is!

GetXboxcodes however (sponsored link above the reviews bit) sells 13month codes for 360 (completley legit) and you dont spent any hidden costs!

Thats $47 which at the current rate of exchange means you are only spending 23.65!! This is a huge saving and unless you really like spending money then Id use them!

5 out of 5 stars The best thing to happen to gaming   April 22, 2008

The Xbox 360 is a great console in its own right, but times are changing, people no longer want to play Ai, mindless enemies that although thanks to new technology adapt themselves to your style, don't have the heart of a real player.

Xbox live changes that. Almost every game is accessible to Xbox live, you can talk to friends via msn or the headset that comes with the console, view other players profiles, chat to them online and view gamerscores.

Xbox live is a world of never ending gaming, where a game can never get old, because no game is alike.

If your worried about the cost, and thinking about a Playstation 3, due to its free internet, consider this, not only does the Xbox get great online games such as halo 3 and Gears of war exclusive. But it gets new maps and new online updates before anyone else, take a good example, Call of Duty 4. New map packs have been released 21 days before the PS3.

But the fun doesn't stop their, your profile, offering the innovative gamerscore / achievements compares you to your friends in a new and different format. Gamertags and pictures can be bought fro the Xbox marketplace, along side HD ready films and new games.

Although, as with every service there are good points, there are some bad ones too, the market place only runs on a currency known as Microsoft points, forcing you to buy a certain amount as opposed to simply paying for your item.

Your money not only goes towards all this, but Microsoft run there own gaming services, unlike ps3 sports titles such as EA, this means the games always run smoothly, whilst ps3 servers, which are free to pay often lag and sometimes it is impossible to get a game, because Sony don't run their own services, and big companies don't want to lose money...

In short, Xbox live is an amazing online feat, offering you everything you could ever need for any type of gamer. Join the online revolution.

Was a pain from beging to end. I kept getting error messages and when i went to micriosoft for help the advised me that i should create a new accout as the system was refusing to update my old one thus costlin me my gamescore and achivements. eventualy my account did update but a had to get up in the middle of the night when fewer people were using the service to do so
