4 out of 5 stars Good mouse   August 26, 2008
Daniel Martin (Bournemouth,England)
This mouse looks nice and has some side buttons on the side which you could press but then just disable them from the installed software that came with this to an unassigned key anyways the mouse is responsive and depending on how much of that you want just change the dpi settings anyways kind of expensive but good and looks pretty.

5 out of 5 stars Breathless   April 10, 2008

This mouse has stunningly fast reflexes and the DPI can be changed with simple clicks of the side-buttons on the mouse. The four different DPI values are very spaced out from very low to very high. Very low = you have to drag the mouse 5 metres for your cursor to move, Very fast = just tap the mouse with a finger and the cursor flies off your screen to another dimension. In short, its perfect for pro gamers.

Apart from its technical brilliance, it looks the part! Just plug it in and turn off the lights. Chaos Green version looks magnificent!

Some other reviewers comment on its unreliablity and software flaws and that it can take ages to install and configure. I have to disagree, I literally popped the CD in the drive, plugged the mouse in, and clicked "Ok" twice. It downloaded drivers automatically in about half a second and that was it. In total about a 10 second install. I have had this mouse for 2 months and it still runs as smoothly as it did when first taken out the package and I have had NO problems since.

Gaming experience = 5/5.
Looks = 5/5.
Lifetime = 5/5.

4 out of 5 stars Could be better.   March 2, 2008

As someone who spends alot of time playing online games, I always seem to be replacing hardware for my PC, and about October last year, it was the mouses turn. I've always used Logitechs as I find them reliable, comfey and easy to use. So when my trusty Logitech MX510 seemed to be getting left behind, I decided it was time to upgrade. Natrualy, I was drawn straight to the logitech G3 laser mouse, but a friend of mine, who owned a Razer Deathadder, suggested I check out the Razer Mice. When I came across the copperhead, I had mixed feelings. It was the worlds highest performing mouse, though I found alot of people saying that they broke quite easily.

So, I reluctantly bought the copperhead, and shortly afterwards the mantis mouse mat to go with it. I was sad to put my old logitech away in the "spent draw", where all my old equipment goes, but I soon forgot about it after I (finaly) got the copperhead up and running. After being so used to the chunky logitechs, the slimer razer started to really hurt my hand, but the more i used it, the more i adapted to it.

And yes, like everything, it has it's flaws that you can't adapt to. Unfourtantly the 2000 dpi is way too much for my fps games, so i tend to stick to the next one down. Small hairs often get stuck to the sticker at the bottom, and get in the way of the laser, causing it it stop working untill you get a pair of tweezers and yank them out. It was a little tricky to set up, and the "on the fly" dosn't seem to like me and rarley works like it's ment to, but other people I know say it works fine for them. There was a nifty little pulsing green light on top which is now more of a jutter than a pulse. And finaly, it can get quite slippery if you don't clean it often, so if your getting stuck into a game, the mouse often slips out my hands and rolls upside down, causing my chracter to start spinnig round in circles, randomly shooting.

And then theres the good points. It's highly accurate, especialy when you buy a mantis to go with it. It's looks and design are beautiful (with the exception of two buttons on the right hand side which are quite impossible to find without lifting the mouse up), and so far, its been just as reliable as the logitechs (whith exception of flipping upside down). However, when the time comes to replace this, unless razer have made a mouse in the logitech shape, I don't think i'll be inclined to buy another one.

3 out of 5 stars Undeniably great, when it works.   January 7, 2008
Mr. C. A. Hope
I bought this mouse and was incredibly happy for the first week or so. I use it with the Razor mouse mat as well and it is incredibly smooth and just a joy to move around the mat with so little effort, it almost feels like its gliding above the surface, and the buttons and design is indeed as good as it gets (complete control without actually having to even grip the mouse on the sides). So thats the hardware, and the reason why I reviewed it with 3 starts as opposed to less.

But the problems start with the software. The control panel will only recognize that the mouse is a razor mouse about 5% of the time, and you have to re-boot the computer between each attempt to find the mouse. When you plug it in it works as a standard mouse, but you don't get to use any of the extra buttons or functionality because of the inability to recognize the mouse correctly. If the computer crashes for any reason on a re-boot it will not even register a mouse at all until you unplug and re-plug it. There are a few updates to support software and drivers on the Razer home site but as of yet they still do not fix these basic problems.

On the whole what I have been left with is an incredibly well designed mouse, which is a hassle to use and which comes with extra buttons and functionality that cant be used. Which is a shame.

1 out of 5 stars Fine for a while then flaky. Terrible driver control panel.   December 18, 2007

I was happy with this mouse initially; on-the-fly resolution switching, extremely smooth and accurate. But then, just like a whole bunch of other Copperhead users, the troubles arrived; random hardware disconnects and freezing in both Windows and games - not good. I've tried different USB ports, powered hubs, driver revisions, firmware upgrades - nothing seems to fix it.

The driver control panel is the single worst piece of ...software I've seen. It's completely themed, so it bears no resemblence to a normal, boring, Windows program. So what, I hear you cry. Well, let's think about it for 30 seconds (which is 29 seconds more than the manufacturers have) - what CAN'T you do when your mouse doesn't work or you can't click on things? (say, because you've accidentally bound the left mouse button to "SPACE", which you can do by accidentally pressing the space bar while the driver panel is open). That's right, you can't use the mouse to click on the buttons that would allow your mouse to click on buttons! Genius!

Lesson to the monkeys who write clever little GUIs for their clever little control panels: Windows accessibility rules are there FOR A REASON. ALL your clever little gadgets need an accelerator key and a clear indication to the poor idiot user that they have FOCUS, and can accept KEYBOARD INPUT. It's not rocket science, it's simple basic usability.

My recommendation - buy a Microsoft device (and not the Habu either, which is a rebadged Terratec). Neither Logitech (HOW many megabytes for a driver?) or Terratec can write drivers, even though their hardware design is usually better.
