2 out of 5 stars Sensors failed and cannot be repaired   June 30, 2008
Dad will fix it (Geo) (UK)
The machine performed fine for our everyday domestic requirements but after 20 months use, it started to run continuously. The sensors that detect when there is a sheet being fed into the machine were apparently not working correctly. I followed the Fellowes website FAQ advice and cleaned them with a cotton bud, to no avail. I then opened up the machine, exposed the sensors and cleaned them more carefully (one was clear but the other was black) and reassembled the machine. It still refused to operate properly. I emailed the Fellowes help desk who told me the machine was irrepairable, was out of warrenty and I should either buy a new one or use it by turning the mains switch on and off.

Can hardly shred two sheets of paper together, and struggles with a credit card - waste of money

2 out of 5 stars Shreds itself!   January 28, 2008

When your shredder starts to shred itself then you get worried....

Performance on my Fellowes P-45C was never exactly stellar, but recently it started getting quite poor.

In use, the plastic casing started undulating like John Hurt's chest in Alien.

Concerned about what was inside, I tentatively took a screwdriver to the casing and discovered that the plastic housing around the teeth is in tatters.

It is now dead. Next I will try and get my money back but I've probably owned it a little too long.

I would classify myself as a light - medium domestic user and rarely put more than 2 sheets at a time into it as depsite the claims, it seemed to struggle. And I only ever put 1 credit card in it as it really complained.

Disappointing.

1 out of 5 stars bits break off   January 25, 2008

I've had my shredder about 18 months now. It regularly jams, so you try reversing to get it unjammed, but all that happens is it starts making cracking noises & bits of plastic are found in the bin. Has never been able to take more than 3 sheets of paper because it just jams. Avoid buying this one, has so many design faults!

1 out of 5 stars Very Poor Quality - Buy the Service Pack - You'll need it!   January 3, 2008

Amazon sells loads of brilliant items but this is not one of them. I have had 3 units break down on me within 36hrs. I have owned a shredder for 4 years and it has performed brilliantly but sadly......

The price on this unit seemed great and the spec seemed good. What they have forgotten to mention is that it can shred 6 sheets at a time but only once, it will then go slower and slower until it stops and needs to shut down.

My BEST shredding session was 32 sheets of paper, it then needed 30 mins to cool down and start again and then lasted 23 sheets. This continued until I ran out of time and then I started again the next day, however it continued to get worse. I was convinced the original unit was faulty but all three units performed the same if not worse.

The unit is black but a better colour would be Brown. Don't buy one of these units - spend a little bit more and buy something better.
