A good idea that is sadly very limited April 11, 2007 A real gone Kid (London, UK) 29 out of 30 found this review helpful
I bought this product to help me download images from my Digital SLR camera to my ipod video 60gb. Well it does work and will store jpeg images from your camera to the ipod. However, and be warned that this product has some SERIOUS issues. Problems 1: Power supply issue. The connector is powered by the Ipod and by the Camera. The Connector will not recognise a card reader and so your camera and Ipod will both have to power the data transfer process and this is a real problem, as the Ipod's battery life is poor and your will struggle with any Card around the 1gb range. Problem 2: The Connector is very slow. Sadly this is a major issue and makes this product only suitable for those who have small memory cards (under 1gb). I fully charged my ipod 60gb and used this product. The ipod's battery power was drained in little under an hour, but takes hours to re-charge. Ultimately your ability to download images is determined by the Ipods battery power and this is the products fatal shortcoming as the ipod cannot be connected to an external mains power supply during data transfer. For a company that prides itself on innovation, they really made a pigs ear of a product, which is a shame, as the conector had great potential. Camera's are sophisticated pieces of equipment, as are ipods and yet the sensative issue of data transfer is undertaken via the ipods internal power supply and not via a constant mains supply source that 99.9% of all data transfer products recommend. Ironically, music downloads are not handled by the ipods own power supply and yet Apple feel that image transfer should be ?? You have been warned. If you have a PC whilst on holiday then just drag and dump images onto the ipod like a portable hard drive but do be warned, this product is not for serious photography storage.
