Pound for pound- the best home theatre system April 15, 2008 D. Lennon (Manchester, Uk) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to spend thousands of pounds on a HT system for a normal sized living room (say 15x12) then be my guest. It won't give you anymore than what this baby can give you. Styling is tremendous. The system looks fantastic (although it does take up some time in setting up right). I got the wireless module as well and that works well with the system. My favourite points are the DIVx playback. Simply mint. Get your memory flashdrive, portable Hard drive, whatever as long as it has a USB port, get your AVI/DIvx movies/TV on it, and off it goes. Great playback and no judder. Sound is clear and powerful. As always the rear speakers dont get involved unless the production is 5.1 and then its for background music but as the two sides, centre and sub are so good it doesn't matter. Voices are as clear as a bell etc. I had my concerns over buying another HT system after my Sony DAVS 500 regularly got overheated and the DVD's would stick. It appears that they have got the bugs out of the system (8 years later!) on these units. Buy this with confidence. I did via Beyond TV, very cheap, got delivery on a saturday for only an extra 20 for all 3 items.
worth the moeny if on a budget April 8, 2008 soldier (uk) First of all the system arrived a hell of a lot quicker than i was expecting, so that was a bonus. This took me about 45 mintues until i could 'fire it up' but i had previous experience wiring a 5.1 system and it really just requires some organisation and knowing where the cables are going before diving in. overall quality is ok, The sound is fantastic, i cannot notice a big difference with the upscaling to be honest but picture is fine through HDMI. I am just using it for watching movies and for the money i think it does the job nicely and looks like something you would come to expect from samsung. It would take 0.5 stars off the rating if it was not for some of the screws not seeming to screw in properly...230 inc very fast delivery.... worth it in my opinion
Speaker cables March 29, 2008 J. Garland (edinburgh) I got this system the other day and when I went to set up this afternoon I discovered there was no speaker wires. can anyone let me know if this should come with wires and if not any ideas where I can get them thanks J
Not bad January 29, 2008 Damian (UK) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This is my third home cinema system, so I reckon I'm well placed to say what's good and what's bad about this item. To start off with the good stuff: it's loud, very loud! It also looks and sounds rather nice, and it has most of the functionality and setup options that you would expect. The USB host is a novel feature that allows you to watch movies straight from a flash drive. I'm not sure how much it will get used, but it's always nice to have the choice. As for the bad stuff, well I'm afraid that there is quite a lot of that. The first thing that I didn't like were the solid plastic speakers. They look fine but I just know that if one takes a knock, it will crack or break. Then there is the overly complicated remote control. It's going to take forever to remember where each button is and what it does. There is also an on screen menu system for setup, which is fine, although you can only access it in stop mode of the DVD function. Why? Moving on to playback, no real problems with DVDs. It upscales just fine. DivX playback is a bit ropey; I've had pauses during chapter changes, and that's something I've never experienced before! Then there are the sound options. There are many effects that can be applied to improve the sound to match your particular source. Unfortunately, these are only available for stereo sources. Again, why? It's a major omission. So overall a decent system, but quite frankly you get what you pay for.
