NOT realy 500GB, otherwise OK July 23, 2008 Mr Disapointed This is NOT 500GB and it has nothing to do with conversion bits to bytes (1 byte 8 bits, therefore 1 kb= 1024 bytes) This hard drive has ONLY 465GB. Where is my missing 35GB Western Digital? And as for Amazon they lie to me and I dont think I'll buy another thing from you.
Element Hard disk 500GB July 18, 2008 Orock Takang (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just received it today and tried to copy family movies unto to them. Almost immediately I was getting an error message that the disk is full. I can clearly see there is enough space to copy all the details of drivers and vehicles held by the DVLA computers. I am returning it fist thing in the morning. Unfortnately what seemed like a good deal has turned into a nightmare. My Lacie hard disk, made by Porche never misses a bit.
Western Digital Elements 500Gb External Hard Drive July 12, 2008 Mr. Michael J. Jordan (Shrewsbury, England) Western Digital Elements 500GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive Bought this from Amazon last week for 49.99 (now advertised at 52.79). Absolute bargain. Plugged in and was up and running immediately. Backed up my whole C:\ drive in less than an hour. Highly recommended.
Would NOT recommend buying. July 11, 2008 Mr. A. P. Anderson (U.K.) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I would recommend you think twice before buying this, or any Western Digital product. Here is my story. I bought this drive around three months ago. It was easy enough to install and setup as you would imagine and so I set about copying data to it. After three months of on and off usage I'd copied around 200GB onto it and was fairly pleased. Until the 6th of July that is, when I woke up, switched it on and it failed to boot. The light on the A/C adaptor blinked pitifully at me and I knew straight away something was wrong. I headed over to Western Digital's support website to look for advice. I soon found a link to an article informing me that this blinking light meant that either the adaptor or the drive had failed. Well no **** Sherlock. Those are the only two components after all. Their website told me to email their customer service to request a new adaptor, which I did. I received an automated email saying I would hear back from them within 1 business day where possible. I am still waiting for a response 5 days later. The only reason I haven't smashed it into tiny little pieces yet is that I want the data back off it first. In brief, it's a cheap shoddy a/c adaptor shipped with the product and Western Digital seem to have no interest in upholding their warranty. Avoid at all costs.
Do Not Buy! July 7, 2008 Emma Keaney (Manchester) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Mine arrived yesterday, was fine and I was chuffed, moved over my films and pictures and it didn't take too long. The blow hit me now, I try to turn it on so I can watch a film and low and behold the hard drive is dead, it won't turn on at all, and that happened in just 18 hours. I would really recommend that you wouldn't buy this. I just hope when I send it back that I can get everything transferred as there is no other way off getting it all back.
