Amazing features with flawed usability May 16, 2008 Clement Jeyaraj (London) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've had this piece of kit for 6 months now and must accept that this gadget is addictive to say least! be in mobile entertainment or home-theatre entertainment (use the dock with my projector) it fits in very well, unmatched in quality and features. The display is 'crystal' and the projected images are sufficiently sharp upto 2m diagonal. There are a few shortcomings however, esp the bulk of the hard drive and the usability as the interface isn't really finger friendly. I'd wish that it had the fluidity of the iPOD touch but having owned an AV, a Gen 4 and now a 5 , I have to admit that Archos are making a good effort in making their PVPs more usable.
expensive but worth it April 4, 2008 G. Morris (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What I wanted - a simple device to backup and store all my music collection and other media so they could be accesses from the sofa via the TV. The Achos is great for this and relatively simple to use once set up. You need to buy the docking bay and figure out how to play music via the TV and the HiFi at the same time (basically set up docking station for the TV and connect HiFi via the headphones jack) it doesn't get 5 stars because * The instructions are terrible. There is a short paper overview document but the detail is on a set of pdfs installed on the machine. The instructions are not exact enough and don't cover some basic tasks. * Synchronisation is not exact or and this causes problems with file names and carefully crafted playlists. * When watched on the TV it has a slightly 1995 look to it. A good look but just dated.
Really wonderful stuff, but`````` March 17, 2008 Wu Yijun (UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is really wonderful stuff, however, there are some weak points 1. When read PDF, it is a little bit too slow 2. The battery should have a longer time 3. Charging takes too much time 4. The plug-ins should be free, it is very annoying to pay extra money for plug-ins Good POints 1. Very powerful and the graphic performance is excellent 2. The wifi is good! 3. Fast file transfer speed 4. A lot of free small programs can be installed, like Chess 5. Fair enough if compare to IPOD in Price and Functions. In sum, this player really worth the money I paid.
A superb product - DAB and MP3 in the car cheaply and easily! February 20, 2008 B. Tarry (Herts., UK) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
This is a superb product. Without any wiring I can now get full DAB (depending on region and reception) in my car and it was so easy to set up - it virtually did it itself. Just fit the ariel, connect to the Highway, plug in to you in-car power socket (cigarette lighter) and let it do it's stuff. Within a minute or two it has found all available stations and identified a free FM frequency which it tells you to tune your car stereo to. And that's it. You're now listening to DAB. The controls are wasy and straightforward with a very clear instruction booklet. And on top of that it has an input socket for your MP3 or iPod so you can now play that through your car sterao if that doesn't itself come with a line in. And, you can take it out of the car and use it as a personal DAB radio with headphones (OK - a bit chunky to use as an MP3/iPOD subsitute in the gym but still portable), and you can then also plug it into your home HiFi with an appropriate cable betweeh the aux on the HiFi and the line-out on Highway. The only moan I have is the in-car stand supplied for it. It uses a suction pad to fix to the car shelf and in the way of suction pads, it doesn't really work. But I just put it on a convenient shelf on the dashboard so no probs to me. Sorry if this comes over a bit over the top, but I love this radio. Pure do it again.
