Product Description This ultra slim and high quality ToughDrive Pro external hard drive from Freecom is the perfect solution for adding storage space to your computer. The ToughDrive Pro is quickly installed when you connect it to the USB 2.0 or FireWire port, and you don't even need to reboot your computer before using it. This means you can start backing up documents, digital photos, videos and MP3 files straight away. You can share files between computers and networks, and you can even lock your hard drive so no-one else can access it. The ToughDrive Pro makes hardly any noise when it's working, because it has cooling technology that doesn't require a fan. It also has an internal anti-shock mechanism, so even if it falls from a height of 2 metres, all your data will still be safe and sound!

Excellent... August 6, 2008 nicjaytee (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This hard drive has a lot going for it: it's small, slim and easy to carry, it looks great, it's extremely well designed (rubberised coating, built in retractable USB connector etc.), and it'll still work if you drop it... well that's what they claim and although you're not likely to want to test this feature out there's nothing in these reviews that suggests otherwise - certainly, having dropped a previous Freecom 80 gigabyte portable drive onto concrete and (after sticking the casing back together) been amazed that it still worked, I can believe it. All-in-all the best back-up drive I've owned to date.
Worth the extra for the its capacity and durability August 2, 2008 esjaywalker 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I chose this drive for capacity (I want full back-ups of two laptops) and durability (it will travel regularly.) It works fine on both a Dell and a Sony laptop, with or without the short extension usb cable provided. I can't vouch for transfer speed as I tend to go and make coffee while it does its stuff, but it's very quiet and gets only slightly warm after prolonged use. I haven't dropped it yet, but feel reasonably confident of its survival were I to do so. The soft silicon covering and general appearance are a matter of personal taste, but I like it because I don't think it will show scratches and scrapes. In conclusion, I don't regret having paid extra for ruggedness and high capacity even though it's now cheaper than when I bought it.
VERY EASY TO USE July 2, 2008 N. Jones (HAMPSHIRE, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I am no computer expert but needed a small, simple, portable external hard drive to back up my photos, videos & docs. This was so easy to use,(Vista) & no set up required. The supplied NTI shadow software works a treat. It even looks cool! Thanks also to Amazon for delivery within 24 hours.
Great drive but read this if you want to store large files! June 6, 2008 Mr. Ac Ellis (England) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this drive as a reasonably priced option for sending large AVI video files between the UK and the USA. It can handle knocks where other hard drives can not I read and it is light enough to keep the postage down. When i do a video shoot i usually create 4 - 6 half hour video samples on 2 cameras so you are looking at 8 - 12 files at about 8 or 9 gig a piece. Now you might think that will be fine on this drive except that it is formatted in Fat format so does not recognise files above 4 gig. The freecom support phone line is dead and you can wait several days from what i can see for any response from the forum. So if you buy this drive and you get this problem, remember this review and format your drive in NTSC (if your operating system allows you to view this format) because getting freecom to advise you will be like extracting teeth!
tough little performer May 8, 2008 C. Sun (england) 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
Only had this a couple of weeks, but have travelled halfway across the world with it and so far it's been an excellent little performer. It certainly gives off a sense of security compared to the more fragile looking portable HDs I have bought in the past. Although I've not dropped it yet, so the 'tough' part of it's moniker is yet unproven. Love the tethered USB cable. Not too keen on the grey and pale blue colourway or the naff logo. Some other drives look cooler. Hence, one star less than a perfect score.
