Good Product, but not perfect. February 28, 2008 G. ROGERS 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have just purchased this product for my laptop, and like most was particularly drawn to this product because of its VGA support. Whilst I agree with what others have said about the video support being quite slow, it works for me. I think you just have to be realistic about what to expect. It has expanded what I can do with my laptop, and has made life a lot easier!! So it is not perfect, they have a little way to go to get this product to that stage, but it is not bad. And everything but the monitor works brilliantly.
Poor video performance on external monitor January 16, 2006 Stephen Neill (Ireland) 33 out of 33 found this review helpful
I bought this product because I wanted to simplify plugging/unplugging my Dell Inspiron 1150 laptop from various peripherals such as printer, scanner, keyboard and mouse. The Targus port replicator offers one feature which differentiates it from all the competition. It offers Video support through the same single USB2 connection which powers all the other peripherals. This allows me to use my desktop flatscreen with my laptop without the tedious job of connecting the monitor cable each time. This enhancement would certainly justify the price tag for this product. However I have been very dissapointed in the display on the desktop monitor. The refresh rate is too slow for video and the display is not very sharp and the cursor freezes on the external monitor while remaining active on the laptops own screen if there are too many other usb devices active. I have tried disconnecting all the other usb devices and there is only a marginal improvement. I have confirmed that my laptop is USB2 equipped and should therefore be fully compatible with this device. This product is certainly inovative but perhaps USB2 is not a fast enough method for good quality video transmission. Nice idea but not quite there.
