I am a complete novice at photography, but an artist eager to learn. I was torn between getting an 'aim & shoot' that would fit in my handbag, but still have good pictures or something with a few more features that would still satisfy when I'm more of a pro.
I purposely chose this camera because the 10mb pixels and zoom attracted me. Was a bit concerned that it would now be too big and heavy as it clearly won't fit the handbag, but I was wrong. I absolute love my little camera, it's nice & compact. I've taken it to a music gig over the weekend and it fitted nicely into my small backpack. I have emptied my 64mb card four times now and the bateries it came with are still going. The quality of the pictures is beautiful and it even tells you you're shaking too much before you take a blurry picture. The flash is very good, but not even needed unless it's really dark as the auto function adjusts the light very well.
To add, I decided to take a risk and also buy the Fujifilm Premium Leather Camera Case, which according to the Fuji website was made for FinePix S1000fd. Amazon didn't have a picture of the case so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the camera fits perfectly and it can also hold a memory card & 4 bateries. Not more than that, but that's all you need and it keeps the camera protected from bumps & scratches.

I'm by no means a photographer but I do like getting the best technology for the price. This is a great bridging camera for people that wont get the use out o a full blown SLR but want more functions etc and better value for money than the standard compact digital cameras.
No problems with it so far.
Easy and intuitive to use.

DON'T HESITATE JUST BUY THIS CAMERA, AMAZING VALUE, UNREAL FEATURES, SUPERB HANDLING, AWESOME LENS, EASY TO FOLLOW CD MANUAL, BUT USING AUTO WILL SUIT MOST USERS, SO JUST POINT & SHOOT.

I bought this camera 3 weeks ago and I am absolutely delighted with it !This is not a simple point and shoot camera, but this is a well built gem resembling a small light weight SLR with very high specifications and a whole host of features including 'Macro' and 'super Macro'. It has a wide range of ISO ( 64 - 3200 ! )for all light conditions with Auto,Programme, Aperture priority, Shutter priority and Manual exposure modes. Additional bonuses are a 'Panorama mode'and 12 X optical Zoom with 10 MP and 2.7 " screen and Face Detection. Takes good videos.Controls are well placed. This camera is a good bargain now for 123/- on the Amazon web site! I will strongly recommend this brilliant camera for someone who is good with ISO and exposure controls etc.With correct settings image stabilisation is not a problem.

I love this camera ,it is light easy to use and the picture quality is superb. It will take in any light even direct sunlight.
The only down side is the digital zoom which needs to be used on a tripod or from a steady position and the image quality as can be expected is not the best.
Overall I would highly recommend this camera I have been thrilled with the results.
