This is All You Need! July 3, 2008 Mr. B. Hollingsworth (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was contemplating getting some of the higher priced logitech remotes, but im soo glad i didn't! I payed only 40 for the remote and it does everything that i need it to. If your not very tech orientated you may get a little frustrated setting this up perfectly, as there are loads of options and settings to get things perfect, but still the software is clear and concise and will guide you thorugh what you need to do in clear steps. The remote is well put together and feels good in the hand, the digital display is not as fancy and flash as the Harmony One and the other colour screens, but are you really going to show your friend your remote???..."Um, heres my remote look at its colour screen, oh, ah". I think not. If you want a very customisable remote with hardly any fuss and cost, this is the one for you!
Highly impressive June 19, 2008 Darren M. Telling (Worthing, Sussex, England) Bought this remote a few weeks back and was very impressed - the girlfriend is now extremely happy at only having to press 'Watch TV' to turn on the multitude of home cinemea gear. I have it controlling my Sky+ HD, Cambridge Audio DVD, Sony LCD and XBox 360. I was so excited about the prosepect of controlling the entire living room that I hopped over to lightingdirect and bought a remote controllable dimmer switch. I can now turn the lights on and off too! I chose this remote over the harmony one and 1000 (seriously considered) due to their lack of coloured buttons which would be highly annoying for operating SKY+. Particularly impressive about the harmony setup software is the ability to assign buttons to any operation of the orignal remote but also to setup macros. For example, I have a macros called 'Planner' and 'Anytime TV' which go straight to those screens on Sky+ (operations otherwise requiring 2 button presses). The only downsides to the remote I think are that the rubber transport controls (which are used alot on Sky+) can be pushed in too far if pressed too hard (over zeolous girlfriend) but these can be fished back. Also, the 'clicky' nature of some of the buttons makes it slightly less fluid to flick through the channels than the original Sky remote... but am more than happy to have this trade-off for a device that replaced about 6 remotes.
Absolute Harmony May 30, 2008 Simon Rodgers I bought this from Amazon last week I am very happy I did. Set up took about 30 minutes, which was straight forward. Any problems I have had have been very quickly resolved from within the remote controls help function. It has replaced 6 other remote controls flawlessly. It even controls my Macbook Pro's Front Row. I would recommend this to anyone for anything.
Does it all for not too many pennies May 29, 2008 Film Lover (UK) Yes, it does take a bit of a stubborn streak to get it exactly the way you want it. If you don't like the idea of tinkering around under the bonnet of this thing, maybe it's not for you. But I'm glad I spent a few hours making it all work properly: it now controls my setup seamlessly. But I know a lot of my friends will think I'm a geek for bothering! You could spend a lot more money to get a a colour screen with fancy icons - but this does the job fine and I reckon it's pretty good value at 55. The very fancy "Harmony One" is probably brilliant - but it doesn't have the coloured "teletext" buttons, which are so useful with TVs, digiboxes etc.. I previously had a Philips Pronto - but the Pronto wasn't (easily) compatible with Macs. So when my old Windows laptop died (the Pronto was the only thing I ever used it for) I turned to this because it works with Macs the same as with Windows. It's not as customisable as the Pronto was - but the flipside is that it's *much* easier to programme Macros (or Activities, as Logitech call them). And having mostly "real" buttons - rather than virtual ones on a touch-screen - makes it much easier to use without having to keep looking down. Full marks - as long as you're prepared to spend a bit of time getting it right, or are in a position to borrow a geek.
Good bit of kit May 19, 2008 Dan (London, England) Everyone is waxing lyrical about this so I won't go over the basics. Yes, it takes a bit of time to get the hang of setting up but is well worth it. The extra bonus is the support for mainstream (at least - haven't tried anything fancy) components. I just bought a blu-ray player which has only been out for a month or so and already the codes were available from Logitech. No fiddling about required, just swapped my old DVD player out from the remote and used the blu-ray.
