Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Don't give up great sound just because you're on a budget or your desk is full - Labtec's Pulse 285 speaker system delivers great value and full sound in a compact design. Mount the satellite speakers to your wall and tuck the powerful Max-X subwoofer out of the way, and you'll get quality sound performance. Set-up is simple, and you can adjust the volume easily with the included control pod.

5 out of 5 stars Well worth the money   July 15, 2008

For the incredibly cheap price its well worth the money you are paying. The subwoofer delivers a good bass and the speakers themselves deliver a good quality sound with very little distortion when the volume is cranked up to max. The volume control and on and off switch is also nicely designed and works perfectly.

However be warned, the cables are pretty short from the speakers to the subwoofer and also from the subwoofer to the PC so i would recommend buying some cheap extension cables as well.

Apart from that if you're looking for budget speakers these are some of the best available

4 out of 5 stars Big things in little packages   June 5, 2008

I bought these as they were cheap and cheerful - and I had heard of Labtec.

As soon as I set them up (easy - straight out of the box) and heard the quality from them I was amazed. The sound quality is excellent for PC speakers and is way above that expected for the price.

They arrived the day after I ordered them ... well done Amazon and very well done Labtec.

4 out of 5 stars Big sound in a Small Package   June 3, 2008

Top marks to both Labtec and Amazon. Delivery was very quick through Amazon so thank you.

Labtec- these speakers have to be nomintated in the bargain of year catagory. For the price; they are well worth it. The bass is really crisp and clear, no tin foil sounding noises can be heard. Set-up was very simple, took 5 minutes. As I only need them for my desktop, the short wires are not a problem.

4 out of 5 stars Great value!   May 22, 2008

Well firstly, the delivery time was extremely quick... so top marks to Amazon.
The installation for these speakers were genuinely very easy... simple plug and play. And then after turning on the computer and testing it out with a few tracks, the sound was mint and is definately great for a speaker of this price. A very good buy!

2 out of 5 stars Not bad, but not good either....   May 21, 2008

Very fast delivery from Amazon, 10/10.
With the excellent reviews here, I was hoping these would be better than the large beige 30w 2:0 speakers supplied with an IBM Aptiva (Win95) computer 13 years ago which I'm still using (not the PC tho !!).

To my dismay, the old speakers (which have 3" drives and separate bass & treble controls) are much better sounding, louder and clearer than these Labtec ones.
Not just my opinion - the whole family agree.

The light-weight satellite speakers lack midrange and punch.
The sub-woofer provided only slightly more bass.
No good for loud rock music - ok for classical or games.

These Labtecs have put me off 2:1 speakers....
Not Labtec tho, as their Elite 840 headphones are excellent.

Good for the money, but I would give them a miss, pay a bit more and get something else.
Creative T20/40 (2:0) would probably suit me better....
