4 out of 5 stars Creative HS-950 - Gaming Headset   November 16, 2008
Mr. N. J. Burch (England)
I've had this headset now for around 2 months, and so far I've had no problems. The headset came with a disc with included all the necessary drivers and applications.

Looks & Comfort

The headset it self, looks nice and sleek. It's nothing to chunky either which is allows me to wear it for long periods of times i.e. the occasional LAN. Not once have i took it off to give my ears a break.

Sound Quality

Regarding the actual sound quality other than for the price its a must have for gaming. And its proofing its worth for music as well. In games such as COD4, CS:S you can almost pin-point other users just using sound which is AMAZING. The bass on these headphones as standard is great, and is possible to enable the bass boost and when in games actually think you're their.

Microphone

The microphone so far has been perfect. It is clear and crisp, and when you're not on ventrilo or teamspeak you can just rotate it up out of the way. Also i like the way the microphone is made, the "stick" its mounted on is so easily adjusted/changed shape over and over to fit comfy every time, its not made of that usual cheap wire many company can use.

Bad points
My only two complaints are that the website doesn't give any drivers for this product as of yet. I have also contacted creative customer services to ask if its possible to buy a copy of the drivers or driver disc that it came with as I have since snapped my disc, however they don't sell them and have none on the website. So Ive had to really on simply backing up all the drivers my self. The second bad point Ive found is the firmware upgrade available is not easily done as the application informs you to do something different to the read me.

However overall if this Headset is what you're after in your price range, fully surround sound - nice bass & quality sound, comfort, light weight & last but not least easy plugged in by the USB then id recommend it 1000x over.

Had this headset for a day. Very comfy, light, great sound when it works for Gaming, coms and listening to Audio/music on the PC.

Had to disable the X-fi 3D setting as it messed up badly and sound became distorted and Robotic. Also experienced a sound crash last night playing LOTRO - sound went distorted, then sounded like a tape slowing down and jamming on a loop... very wierd. Rebooted PC and it solved the problem. For now....

This happened in the middle of the Rift instance using Ventrilo which was slightly annoying to say the least.

Tried it with COD4, and you can almost feel the bullets hitting you.

I'm hoping that this was just a one off random crash - cant find any drivers to update the ones on the CD provided.

Overall, if the Crash was a one-off thats not so bad, but I don't know why the X-Fi 3D setting screws up the sound so badly.
