4 out of 5 stars Great for transferring music from HiFi to PC   October 7, 2008
G. E. Morris (Wales, UK)
This has been excellent for transferring music (LP, CD or cassette) from a HiFi amplifier to a laptop, as wav, wma or mp3 files. It includes software to remove tape hiss, etc and a timer to start recording. For some reason, my system only works when you use "mic" input and not "line in". Also to hear what is being recorded through the laptop speakers, you have to tick both the "Analyze" and "Hiss removal" boxes in the "Record Now" section. It does more or less the same as a Sound Card, but Sound Cards for laptops are very expensive (compared with desktop).

4 out of 5 stars Good bit of kit and cheap   September 5, 2008
Mr. M. Crook (Leeds, UK)
I bought this as i am streaming more and more video/music from my PC to TV/AV Receiver. The onboard sound on my Inspiron is ok, but no decent audio out, i was having to use the headphones socket with an adaptor. The headphone socket was starting to fail from all the use.

Compared to that the sound is fantastic, especially with a decent set of interconnects (QED Qunex 2, too good for this unit but i had them lying around). The result is warm and involving with pretty tight base considering. This unit is stereo only, but i wanted my A/V receiver to handle any surround sound processing, so it was exactly what i wanted.

Another review advised this doesn't work with Vista. I downloaded the latest drivers from Creative and it works great with Vista x32, no problems at all.

I can't comment on the other functionality, but for audio out it is great.

Only gripe is the flashing led when it is working. Good i suppose so you know it is working, but too bright/distracting when watching movies in a dark room. Saying that masking tape is very cheap.

So i recommend this product. Marked one down for the the led (bit harsh).

3 out of 5 stars Nice device   June 3, 2008

Very nice bit of kit. Plenty of connections, good software and very good recording quality. The device and its software installed with no problems.
The sound card was bought to allow my PC to play iTunes through my amp. This it does very well with the optical output providing a very detailed and lively sound. I also tested it recording an original mini-disc to the PC. Again very good quality and no problems with the software.
The only one minor gripe I have with the unit is the blue LED on the top. This is fine when the device is plugged in and no sound is going through it but, as soon as any sound passes through it the LED blinks in a really irritating way. This makes it very distracting when it is placed on the desk.
The advantage it has being a USB device is that I now only have one USB lead going back to the PC. All the other cables are now behind the amp installation.

pleased with this product. plenty of features, accessories, software and easy connectivity. instantly upgraded the sound quality of music and video through my pc. makes a huge difference to the quality of the sound especially on voices and low or bassy sounds compared to the onboard sound card.
