Good and Bad December 8, 2007 SKWebpages (Glasgow. UK) Very nice web cam, easy set-up and good picture quality even in low light with it's auto adjusting iris. The problems start when you try to use it with FTP web cam software. It runs for a day, an hour, or a couple of minutes then the computer hangs. I have persisted and tried using it on 2 different laptops and a desktop, using two different FTP programs and the problem is the same. It is also mentioned on their own support page, which I should have read before buying it, that it is a known fault with it. I have now bought a Panasonic IP camera to replace it and only use the Logitech sphere for Skype. Even this is not perfect because the follow-me needs to be turned off as the motor makes a noise when it moves which the other party can hear.
NOT MAC COMPATIBLE AS CLAIMED May 22, 2007 Roomy Armholes (Manchester, England) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Well, the headline says it all. I ordered one of these a few months ago and found to my dismay that there was no proper hardware or software support to get this working with my relatively new Mac Mini. Logitech has no Mac support to speak of and any claims of Mac compatibility, in my experience with them, has been greatly exaggerated.
Logitech Sphere - Thumbs up to Quality & Value 4 Money! December 17, 2004 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
Strange this alien looking webcam - hidden with all sorts of tricks and suprises! The installation was easy for me, quick, simple and no problems on Win XP. You have to follow instructions otherwise you might have some trouble! The whole point of this new gadget was to be able to have face tracking when moving (that was the main reason why i brought this item). Disappointly it fails that, unless of course you move like a slow-motion movie and take about 5 seconds for every joint movement.. it often mistakes your leg or your chest as your FACE which is A GREAT BONUS :S! However my hands clap for the high quality pixels and colour.. the resolution is amazing and it looks cool on your desk! It has it's own stand so you dont have to balance it on your monitor or on something higher. It's also quite useful because you can manually control it and make it turn and zoom! It's v. good for the price on amazon! 60 well worth spending on!
Good for IM but not much else...... November 26, 2004 38 out of 59 found this review helpful
For those of you that are looking to do something radical like use this camera to stream video to the internet and give people TPZ controls - forget it. There is no API, there is not even any control software and Logitech continue to assert that everything is proprietry to explain their unwillingness or inability to provide the software. It only really works with IM packages, which it does admirably. I simply don't get it - an excellent TPZ feature that only works using IM. What??? I don't know about the rest of you but I tend to sit reasonably still when I use IM and the 180 degree pan and 60 degree tilt capability of the camera is totally wasted unless you have the urge to throw yourself across the room suddenly. So, if you're like me and you're looking for a TPZ camera to do something other than IM don't buy this as it will not do what you want. If you're simply after a camera to interact with IM, save your money, buy something cheaper and don't jump around the room whilst typing! Hopefully Logitech are looking at this sort of review and are reconsidering their frankly perplexing refusal to give their customers more than the ability to use TPZ with IM.
Installation nightmare November 18, 2004 Paul Handover (Totnes, Devon United Kingdom) 14 out of 23 found this review helpful
This was a gift. The CD Rom had outdated drivers but it was easy enough to download the latest software. My PC is running Win2000 Pro with all the latest updates. Despite numerous attempts to install the web cam, it only worked once and then for a short time. The s/w consistently suggested the camera wasn't connected. My registry was corrupted and the support from Logitech was pretty poor. Essentially they kept sending me copies of the support material from their web site. When I started to be more assertive about needing help, they advised me that I had a faulty camera. It was returned to Amazon. It's put me off Logitech completely. Great shame as the spec was super. Glad to see others have had much better experiences.
