I was going to buy the Linux version, but chickened out, since I had a lot of windows applications that I thought I might spend hours trying to get to work. For example, the Aspire One Users' website implies that getting your GPRS Dongle to work under Linux is iffy. Anyway, I pre-ordered my XP Home model (and so got it at a cheaper price than currently) and it has been worth the wait. Easy to set up, boots quite quickly under XP Home (much faster than my XP Pro laptop) and the keyboard and screen quality are very good. Wireless connectivity seems as good around my home as my grown-up laptop. I've not yet been able to assess the battery life. The XP version comes with MS Works as well as the trial version of Office 2007, but I've decided to give OpenOffice a try instead. A geeky check-weigh turns it in at 1040 gm: so just over a kilo. This fills the bill perfectly for those restricted-space train and cattle-class airline journeys. An all-round good buy.
Fantasic! August 30, 2008 V. Fajks (Kent, UK) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
Acer Aspire One A150-Bb Netbook, Windows XP Home, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 120GB HD (Sapphire Blue) What a fantastic little Acer. I'm calling mine a Mini-Acer!!! The QWERTY keyboard is just right for the size of this netbook, and the speed of the Internet is faster than I ever expected. I chose the 1GB of RAM, as I didn't want to wait around when multi tasking in lectures; trying to type up notes whilst the lecturer is talking nine-tenths to the dozen. This netbook will save me so much time and energy in not typing up my notes from hand written versions, and clipping pictures from the Internet to explain my notes somewhat better, all whilst in the lecture! Now I won't have to worry about lugging my normal sized laptop to University, along with library books and files etc, since it hardly weighs anything (I can hold it in one hand without any effort at all). This is a must for University students with the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2007 package, Amazon giving a whopping 50 discount!!!! I'm so happy with my purchase I could just cry!!!
