2nd A3 from HP August 20, 2008 Michael A. Kidson 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My first HP A3 printer produced great results but drank ink, this one produces, if anything, even better results but the individual catridges has cut the costs dramatically. Perfect Photoshop screen image onto the printed page 100% of the time and first time.
Protracted Calibration Uses Photo Paper Every time June 1, 2008 Mr. Jc Laver (Swindon) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've had major problems with this printer and unbelievably am on my 3rd unit. The first unit's Ethernet port would not work, the replacement had a mechanical fault. Every time you start the printer it has to go thru a laborious and unacceptably expensive calibration procedure that uses A4 photo paper!!!!!!!. The mechanics sound like something out of Wallace & Grommit - they are quite obviously crude and inefficient. As for the South African Help Desk - Appalling. HP - I'm very disappointed. You can make a good printer sometimes e.g. the DeskJet 6980.
Unreliable, and no support from HP December 19, 2007 Mr. M. Haynes (Derby, England) 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
Beware! The paper handling of the printer is dreadful, when it works the print quality is good, but most of the time it will chew media (even though I only use HP branded media). The support from HP is based in South Africa, where I was told they "do not have a Photosmart Pro B9180", ...so much for support. HP promised to exchange the device eventually. The speciality media feed does not feed media squarely, there is no left side guide, and the right guide is about 2mm high, as such it produces bordered prints with tapered borders. The reprinting of the skewed prints leads to loads of expensive ink and paper being wasted. The overall ink consumption and cost is horrendous, especially in terms of cost per usable print. The product has to be left powered on 24/7 (according to the manual) which, I didn't realise when I bought it. The online registration form was corrupt (although it has since been patched). Overall the B9180 is poor, and HP support is absolutely useless. I wish I had bought an Epson.
Great printer June 13, 2007 G. A. Heiss (Kent, UK) 30 out of 32 found this review helpful
Buy from a UK supplier.. this is an excellent machine with its self calibration closed colour loop thingy going on.. means I get great colourto screen matches almost all the time. Black and white takes more effort .. print with Hanemuhe paper and it is staggeringly good.. one of its strengths is its ability to utilise different media in a special straight through paper path (which means you have to pull it forward from time to time as the paper exits straight out the back.) Very well made and a good plug in for photoshop means its easy to use and apply the inbuilt profiles to good effect. haven't needed to do any custom paper profiles at all as the self calibration handles it.
