Buy only if protability is more important than quality. April 16, 2008 elmtree (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The scanner is light in weight and can scan papers up to size A4. It does not accept thick paper or cardboard. Installation and set up were very easy (using Windows XP). As for performance, there is sadly not much to recommend it for. After three attempts at scanning photos, I found it too upsetting to continue. The quality of the scanned photos was simply awful. Had the same depressing output using pages from coloured magazines. Whilst the text scans looked better, the Readiris pro 11 software failed to recognise whole paragraphs, read images as text and failed completely to recognise documents when these were inserted upside down. Using the same scanner and documents I had absolutely no problem with my older OCR software, OmniPage pro14 and a free copy of Abbey's FineReader 5. In summary there is nothing to recommend this scanner for except its portability. If portability is not an issue, you would be far better off with a basic multifunction printer/scanner and an older copy of Abbey or Omnipage OCR software.
