Product Description Microsoft Intellimouse 5 Button Scroll Optical OEM
Amazon.co.uk Review
The IntelliMouse Optical incorporates all the great features of the IntelliMouse Explorer mouse into its design--optical technology, cool red underglow, titanium accents and superior performance. It also answers the most common complaints about the Explorer. For example, the two troublesome side buttons that were on the Explorer have been moved--there is one on each side of the IntelliMouse Optical, so both right- or left-handers can now program and use these buttons for any number of functions. In addition, the IntelliMouse Optical's smaller body is comfortable for people who don't have large hands. Installation is quick and easy. The IntelliMouse Optical plugs into your USB port or into a PS/2 port with the included adapter. It comes with IntelliPoint software for both PCs and Macs so you can program the two extra side buttons and the wheel button. Once you have set up the buttons, the mouse is ready to go. Just like the Explorer, the IntelliMouse Optical works on most surfaces and doesn't require a mouse pad. It is possible to use the mouse on a wood desk, stacks of paper, a trouser leg, the carpet and other non-reflective surfaces. Don't try to use this mouse on a glass desk, though--the IntelliMouse Optical needs to be on an opaque surface. The optical technology works by taking 1,500 pictures per second of the surface beneath the mouse and instantly comparing the series of pictures to track movement across the surface. We also enjoyed using the IntelliMouse Optical for gaming. It's super-accurate and quick to respond. And the scroll wheel is tight, making it easy to select weapons. Whatever the application, the IntelliMouse Optical is a great mouse with almost no flaws. We highly recommend it.--Ara Jane Olufson

Best mouse September 21, 2008 Matt H (Cambridge, UK) This house has at least three of these. Every other mouse I've used compares unfavorably. It does its job faultlessly and persistently, its silent perfection is rarely commented. The only Microsoft product I use, I can't fault it (although my one needs a clean). Can be used by USB or via a PS/2 adapter. Recent releases of Ubuntu configure all the buttons correctly. I find the back/forwards buttons make browsing much faster.
If you buy only one MOUSE this is the one to get. November 18, 2007 Mr. P. J. R. LEWIS (Llandudno N Wales) This Intellimouse 3 button Optical mouse is without doubt the best ive used at either work or at home. Quality nononsense dependability is the order of the day, over three years of continued use this mouse has never let me down and still performs as good as new. There are so many mice on the market costing little money to too much money, this one which is sensibly priced is by far the best and if you are not happy with it then there is no hope for you. Everything is screwed together in a quality sort of way,the buttons on either side work as good as new and goodness knows how many times they have been clicked over the 38months of ownership. By all means look at other mice but you will certainly find this one of above average in all departments.
All Surfaces, All Good July 12, 2005 C. Dearden (Sheffield, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This mouse was a very shrewd purchase. Since buying it almost a year ago, I've had no problems with it and have had to clean it very seldom to keep it in perfect working order. It runs constantly atop a polished wooden surface which it runs on very well, bar a few skips as it runs over chips in the wood. The DPI is quite low but this isn't a problem for me as I am not a 'mouse gamer'. The response is fast, the application is smooth and the mouse weighs very little. Dirt accumulates on the four run pads on the mouse but has, to date, not got into the lens and affected the movement of the mouse.I understand this model is aging quickly now so I'd suggest picking one up on the cheap or going for one of the improved models - though there is nothing wrong with this!
For Maya users everywhere June 7, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
In one of the reviews the reviewer has obviously not installed the Intellimouse driver for either Windows or Mac.When installed the driver allows you to define a profile for global applications, e.g. this profile will be used by everything, or you can specially ask it not to do anything with the input of a certain application. When this is done, the middle button reverts to be just a middle button and two side buttons don't do anything. For anyone else, this mouse is possibly one of the best I have used, being left handed means certain Logitech mice are a little too uncomfortable to use.
Great Mouse June 23, 2004 Richard Kelly (Manchester, England) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is simply a good quailty mouse if you want to trawl the internet. It has five buttons, two of which are automatically configured as forwards and backwards in Web Browsers, and as it is optical you don't have to worry about the rollers/ball getting clogged with rubbish.Positionally it is spot on, and fine control is easily achieved. Just be aware that if the surface is shiney, or if there is a large degree of colour contrast then it may get a bit confussed and pointer movement may be erratic. Good quality mouse 9/10
